Town have confirmed the signing of full-back or midfielder Abdoul Ouattara from Ligue 1 Strasbourg, the player having penned a five-year deal.

The Blues agreed a fee understood to be an initial €20 million (£17.1 million) plus a further €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons with boss Gary O’Neil’s former club at the end of last week with paperwork delaying confirmation of the 20-year-old’s switch, along with that of teammate Julio Enciso, whose move back to Town on a permanent basis is also set to be announced.

“I am very happy to have signed for Ipswich Town,” Ouattara said. “The Premier League is the best league in the world and as soon as I knew the opportunity was there, to play in England under a manager I have already enjoyed working with, I jumped at it.

“I am still young but have had some good experiences already and I can’t wait to meet the fans and my teammates and get started.”

Manager O’Neil added: “Abdoul is a talented young player who can play in different positions, so is a very good addition to our squad.

“We enjoyed working with him in France last season and are delighted to have the opportunity to do so again at Ipswich.”

Ouattara came through the youth system at Strasbourg, joining them as a 13-year-old, having moved to France aged 10 from Cote d’Ivoire.

He was drafted into the senior squad at 16 in 2021 and broke into the first team in 2024/25.

Last season he scored twice in Ligue 1, playing in a variety of roles, usually in midfield, but often at right-back, before ending the campaign at left-back.

Given his age, Ouattara won’t count towards the 25-man Premier League squad.
