Town in Embolo Talks

Town are in talks with Rennes striker Breel Embolo, the Swiss international having turned down a move to MLS side Atlanta United.

The Blues were speculatively linked with the 29-year-old a month ago along with Hull City but with a €17 million (£14.5 million) move to Atlanta looking all but done.

However, as L’Equipe reported last night, that switch has broken down due to the player failing to agree personal terms and Embolo is now in talks with the Blues.

If the discussions progress well, the former Monaco man is expected to travel to England for talks and a medical.

Embolo, who scored two and assisted two at the finals before being red-carded in the quarter-final defeat to Argentina, joined Rennes for €13 million (£11 million) from Monaco last summer.

Rennes, from whom Town signed Azor Matusiwa last summer, are looking to offload players from a bloated squad ahead of the new season.

Cameroon-born Embolo was raised in France and then Switzerland, where he began his senior career with Basel.

A spell in Germany with Schalke 04 and then Borussia Mönchengladbach followed before his switch to Monaco in 2022.

Capped 92 times by Switzerland, scoring 26 goals, 6ft 2in tall Embolo scored eight times in 20 starts and 11 sub appearances in Ligue 1 last season.

Is there a world now where Matusiwa doesn't even get a look in when he returns from injury? O'Neil has no reason to be loyal to the McKenna old guard - he wants his own team. I can easily see Philogene going if Fiorentina can stump up the £30m+ required.

Yes please!!! Out of all the strikers linked, he's the one I've wanted most.

Embolo and Palacios, off the back of Enciso and Outarra, just wow.

We haven't really had any transfers fall through this summer (credit to the club), which makes me a little nervous about these too... however the big positive is these are two positions all of us know we need to strengthen, so with the time left in the window even if they did fall through, I'm sure we have alternatives.

Get them done and anything else in the final couple of weeks will be a bonus.... maybe a CB and LB cover? A young striker on loan?

Gforce added 10:06 - Aug 18 92 senior caps for Switzerland is some experience, just what we'll need in the premier league. This would be a superb signing for around 14 million. If we can also land Palacios,it would some statement.

What is pleasantly more likely is that we have kept our business under wraps until almost done. Which suggests to me these 2 new prospective signings are indeed pending.
