Town’s U21s get their Premier League 2 season under way this evening when the take on Manchester United at the Progress with Unity Stadium in Leigh (KO 7pm).

John McGreal’s side will be aiming to replicate last year’s very impressive fifth-place finish in their first campaign as a category one academy.

The U21s have already played two games in other competitions, a 4-2 loss to Coventry City at the JobServe Stadium, Colchester in the Premier League Cup and a 1-1 draw at Braintree Town in the National League Cup, the young Blues subsequently winning a penalty shootout to pick up an additional point.
