Clubs Agree Loan Deal For Abraham

Town and Aston Villa are reported to have agreed a loan deal for striker Tammy Abraham but with the player still to decide whether to make the switch.

The Blues have been after an experienced striker all summer having looked at a number of options with the move for Abraham emerging yesterday.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the clubs have now agreed the details of what is a straight season-long loan, but are waiting for the player to give the nod.

Abraham rejoined former loan side Villa for £18 million from Besiktas in January but has looked set to move on this summer.

Since returning to the Midlanders, the 28-year-old, who is 6ft 4in tall, has made four starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

Abraham started his career with Chelsea, spending time on loan with Bristol City, Swansea and Villa, before moving to AS Roma on a permanent basis for £34 million in August 2021.

He spent 2024/25 on loan at AC Milan, then joined Besiktas on loan in July 2025, the South Londoner signing permanently in January due to an option but then leaving for Villa only days later.

Abraham has been capped by England at full level 11 times, scoring three times, but most recently played for the Three Lions in 2022.

Interesting one, find it strange that we'd have gone through the effort of agreeing the loan deal without having some sort of indication that he was up for joining.

Wonder if he's waiting to see what other offers come in. Imagine we must've put a deadline on this before we move onto someone else.

Lets see what happens, end of the day if he doesn't want to chose us for whatever reason (football or moving to Suffolk) I'm alright with that.

Now, we thought Palacios wasn't keen but the fact that he's prepared to do that video suggests it's been explained to him exactly who we are, what we want to achieve and that he's fully on board.

Point being the club are not bullsh!tting players about who we are, what we expect of them, and what we aim to achieve which is hugely positive so as boroughblue said I'm ok if he's not up for that, it's best to go with a player who is.

poet added 09:44 - Aug 28 boroughblue You make some good points. I also find it odd that the clubs have continued negotiations without getting g him on board. I think he is hoping that another premier league club offers him a permanent contract. If he’s going to treat us as a backstop with an oh well might as well attitude, then in my opinion, he should certainly look elsewhere.

urbanpenguin added 09:44 - Aug 28 I really hate this "his heart's not in it" and "he isn't Ipswich through and through" way of thinking. It's his job, of course he's entitled to think about it. The only people who would be in it as much as some of these deluded fans want will be washed up players in lower leagues who were born in Suffolk, and I don't think we will stay up with a squad of those.

There’s a big difference here between the Palacios deal and Abraham. To start with, Palacios’ club were very difficult to deal with, it was a permanent deal, and they were after as much money for him as they could get, plus, they didn’t really want him to leave. Consequently, I believe it was the club that suggested he didn’t want to come to Ipswich.
This is totally the opposite. This deal is a loan, both clubs are in agreement that it should go ahead. The stumbling block is that this time, it appears to be genuine that the player has his doubts about coming on loan.

At 28, Abraham needs to get his career back on track. He needs to play, and with Ipswich he would do that in the Premier League. I understand he may want to play for a more high profile club - but there's a lot of recency bias involved in that assessment. Look back at the history, Ipswich are up there with 3 stars on the shirt. And now we have an ownership group determined to invest and take us back to competing at the top end of the Premier League. I'd have thought our project would be ideal for Abraham, and hope he joins, but we need a swift decision and full commitment.

Even if he WANTS to come, you can't blame him for first weighing his options, which of us wouldn't? Either way, I'm expecting an experienced 9 in by the end of the window.

BeachBlue added 10:12 - Aug 28 In his defence. I think he's right to take his time and think it over. Back in 1999 (yes I know I'm getting old!) I jumped at a job offer and regretted it. Also Sam Morsy asked for time to think it over before joining Ipswich.
