Town boss Gary O’Neil expects new signing Exequiel Palacios to play some part at Manchester United on Sunday and is hopeful fellow midfielder Florentino Luis will also be involved following his calf injury.

However, Azor Matusiwa and Jack Taylor, who underwent surgeries at the end of last season, remain sidelined, along with Jaden Philogene, who suffered an ankle knock in the friendly at Union Berlin.

“We’re hoping Florentino will be back around it, there’s still a little bit more work to do, but he’s improving well,” O’Neil said.

“Azor will still miss the game, is not quite back. Jack Taylor will still be out. I think apart from that we’re in a pretty good place.

“Jaden Philogene won’t make the game either. His recovery’s a little bit longer, week-to-week, hopefully we’ll get some better news next week, but this week he’ll miss out.

“Really pleased with where the group’s at, we’re in a good place, obviously another addition yesterday. Good performance in the cup in the week, so we’ve had a really strong week and looking forward to a big challenge this weekend.”

Regarding World Cup winner Palacios, whose move from Bayer Leverkusen was confirmed last night, he added: “I’m sure you’ll see him on Sunday.”
