O'Neil Hopeful on Emersonn Injury

Town boss Gary O’Neil is hopeful striker Emersonn’s knee injury isn’t anything serious, the Brazilian having come off at half-time during the 5-2 defeat at Manchester United this afternoon.

“We’re hopeful it’s not serious,” O’Neil said. “It was like a landing and a jarring of it, so it was a bit too painful for him to carry on. That was a blow, of course.

“But we’re hopeful that it’s not going to be anything too serious. I’m hoping that when we get in tomorrow and when he’s checked, he’s feeling a bit better.

“Same again on Tuesday, there’ll be some more checks. It could be anything at this stage, but with the initial signs, we’re hopeful.”

armchaircritic59 added 20:02 - Aug 30 Ha well, I posted in the forum yesterday about our lack of proper strikers ( the ones that put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis kind ) and said an injury to one ( especially Emersonn ) would leave us in a striking armageddon. Mystic Meg strikes again! Memo to recruitment, there's still one out there and he scored yet again this afternoon.

Everyone said what happens if Emmersonn gets injured. Well, we had one, yes one striker at the club. Wake up MA need at least one top striker. Preferably two.

Jas0999. Same old from you. We dontchabe just 2,strikers. Both Encisco and Maeda can play there. Would mean having to adjust how we play the ball up to them of course. And yes,we still need another. I expect that Abraham will,be here before the deadline. Providing villa get another striker. Clearly tho, youvthink its so easy to sign strikers, so maybe you should offer ur services to the recruitment team. Show tge where they've gone wrong

That’s not because I claim some peculiar genius, just that it is all too obvious what would happen should Emersonn be injured. Fortunately, there are still a couple of days left to sign a replacement. Unfortunately, it means that we risk signing someone unsuitable due to having a crisis.

Carberry added 23:16 - Aug 30 We've needed a striker for 2 years, nobody signed to develop in the Championship, nobody lined up for the Premiership and we are scrambling around. Clarke would score more goals than Maeda, while Emersonn is an unknown quantity and injured. If we don't get someone decent in before the end of the window it will be a dereliction of duty.

It appears to be a recruitment blind spot, as to why, I've no idea. Still, there's two days left and time for the rabbit out of the hat.

For anyone looking to slate the club for the lack of signing a striker, think of this we have been after loads and for some reason they havent as yet come off. Look how much forest have paid for what is really a massive flop (last season at chelsea)! Also its not only about ability promise wanting to come here they need to have a certain attitude thats fits into our culture, almost as rare as hens teeth. So really not sure why the experts on here think its that easy! We really have been treated to a special window so far, a day and a half left, lets see who comes through the door! I think there's another treat coming!

As for Emmerson not sure he had any meaningful touches!

Dissboyitfc, he didn't, looked lost and most certainly not all his fault. Young guy, inexperienced at these levels and finds himself at one of the most famous grounds and teams in world football for his first away game. Not helped by the ball going out wide left or right nearly all the time so almost nothing for him to battle for. Felt a little bit sorry for him actually and that was of course before the injury. Hope it doesn't prove to be another cruciate ligament tear that he first had just under 4 years ago, for his sake as much as anything else.
