Ogbene Set For Lincoln Loan

Blues winger Chieo Ogbene is set to join Championship new boys Lincoln City on loan.

The Republic of Ireland international has always looked set to move on again this summer, having spent the last campaign on loan at Sheffield United, with his involvement with the Blues in pre-season largely having been out of position in the early friendlies.

As first reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, the 29-year-old is closing in on a loan move to the Imps.

Ogbene, who joined Town from Luton for £8 million in the summer of 2024 but suffered a serious achilles injury early on in the Premier League season, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2028.

RetroBlue added 21:52 - Aug 31 Im thinking more about the size of the club rather than their present team. But its indicative of our previous recruitment that (as someone has already said), £8m purchase to loanee at Lincoln. I wish him well but will Lincoln be paying us £8m? I doubt it.

He’s a good player at that level and did v well for Luton. A real shame he had his injury and then a poor loan to Wilder’s team in Sheffield. He’s a knob, so hoping this works out for Ogbene

This way he might impress and we find someone wants him in January (if there's a recall clause) or next summer for a higher fee than we'd have had today. Seems a no brainer to loan to somewhere he'll probably start most games rather than sit on their bench rather than ours.
