Emery: Abraham Staying at Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has confirmed that former England striker Tammy Abraham won’t be joining Town.

The Blues and Villa are understood to have agreed terms on a season-long loan but the 28-year-old has opted against the switch.

“Tammy is coming back to the Premier League,” Emery said after his team’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal this evening, Abraham having come on as a 71st-minute substitute.

“I spoke with him. He needs time but he needs to do it as soon as possible to adapt to the Premier League.

“He didn't perform like we wanted last year. Now we have one striker, [Nicolas] Jackson, we are very happy with him. We have [Brian] Madjo, but he is injured and Tammy Abraham’s decision is to stay here.

“We opened the door for him but he’s decided to stay here with us. I am going to be very demanding with him to add his qualities with us.”

Town have turned their attentions to Burnley striker Zian Flemming with a £17 million deal understood to be close to being agreed ahead of the Tuesday 11pm deadline.

Diamonddazzler91 added 05:25 - Sep 1 I suspect there were offers from abroad. He’s not a character that would’ve fought for us to the end. Buying permanently with Flemming will be better in the long run, and if we were to be relegated, Flemming would suit the Championship’s style well.

Not a player to be bringing in, especially on loan, when you need everyone giving their all for the battle ahead. Dodged a bullet alright.

If so then even if not to be a no 1 pick, we should look at a position with least cover and get someone in on loan, be it fellow prem or abroad. May as well use the spots

Im totally with the sentiment that we don't want players who's heart isnt on it, I understand he's been angling for a move to turkey but with Villa losing so many players it remains to be seen. Flemming has been on our radar since the start of last season, let's gett hat done and use the loans to bolster elsewhere

PortmanTerrorist added 08:41 - Sep 1 Wonder if he thought he was coming in as a guaranteed starter....then saw Emersonn play. I did saw after Sunderland that Emersonns performance might change the dynamic of who we could bring in, and can't help wonder if this played a part.
