Blues midfielder Cameron Humphreys has rejoined League One Huddersfield Town on loan for the season and has extended his Portman Road contract until the summer of 2028.

The 22-year-old’s deal was due to be up next June, the club having taken the option for a further season at the end of 2025/26.

“I’m delighted to be back at the club and I’m really excited to have the full season to look forward to,” said Humphreys, who was on loan with the Terriers last season.

“While we didn’t get the results we wanted toward the end of last season, I loved my experience of being here, being part of the team and working under the head coach [Martin Drury], which was a major factor in me being so keen to return.

“I’ve had a really good pre-season with Ipswich and feel ready to hit the ground running. The team feel like they’re in a positive place at the moment, and I want to do whatever I can to help keep that going, as I know how important momentum can be in this league.

“I can’t wait to be in the stands for the game this evening and feel the atmosphere of the Town fans again and help you all get behind the team.”

Huddersfield sporting director Chris Markham added: “We’ve been in close contact with both Ipswich Town and Cameron throughout the summer should an opportunity present itself to bring him back to the club, so we’re delighted that we’ve got this over the line before the deadline.

“As both a person and player, Cameron embodies so many of the qualities we want within our squad, and his familiarity with our environment means the time it will take for him to adjust will be minimal.

“Just as important as our thoughts on Cameron was his appetite to come back, too. He formed a strong relationship and understanding with Martin, knows the majority of the players around him and build a genuine affinity for the club, too.

“As we know, he is a versatile option for us, adding further flexibility to the squad, with the comfort to operate in a number of roles within the team.

“A player we know Town fans grew to love as well, we’re looking forward to having him here with us for the full season ahead.”

Head coach Drury said: “I’m delighted to welcome Cameron back to Huddersfield Town. He’s an impressive person and a really talented footballer, who left a positive impression on us all in the time we worked together last season.

“Performing really strongly for Ipswich Town throughout pre-season, it’s testament to him that his parent club have only considered allowing him to leave towards the end of the window.

“Having built a really good relationship with him, we’d kept in touch on a regular basis and it’s really pleasing that Cam has chosen to come and play for us for the 2026/27 campaign. 

“Thank you to Kevin [Nagle, owner], Chris and David for supporting this and adding a player that fits our culture and the qualities we want on the pitch.

“Myself and the coaching staff will continue to work closely with Cam to support his development and we look forward to seeing Cam in action this weekend.”

Last week, Town boss Gary O’Neil spoke glowingly of the academy product, who had featured regularly throughout pre-season and then played the full 90 minutes of the Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City.

“Unbelievable pre-season that the boy’s had,” O’Neil said. “When I came in, I was thinking, how are we going to get through pre-season with two centre midfielders?

“And Cam has just been unbelievable around the first-team group. He’s never looked out of place. He has unbelievable quality.

“He’s a fantastic kid. I’ve absolutely loved the first nine weeks of working with him and I think he has a real bright future.

“Whether he plays loads in the Premier League this season, things will unfold the way they unfold, but I see no reason that if he keeps progressing the way he’s progressing that he won’t have a career in the Premier League. 

“I think he has a real chance, especially the way he works and the way he goes about his business. So, delighted for him that he’s gone so well.

“Let’s see what the rest of the season looks like for him, he’s made a fantastic start. I’ve been really impressed. Sort of caught me by surprise, really, I didn’t see much of him, but a real pleasant surprise. So, fantastic kid, talented footballer. Looking forward to seeing how he does over the next few months.”
