Sage: Frustrated For the Players
Saturday, 12th Sep 2026 21:15

Crystal Palace head coach Pierre Sage was frustrated for his players after his side fell to a late 3-2 defeat to the Blues at Selhurst Park having got back on terms despite being down to 10 men.

Zian Flemming’s first goal for Town won it in the final minute, the Eagles having fought back to 2-2 in the second half having been a goal down at the break and reduced in number since the 34th minute when Axel Disasi was dismissed for a studs-up challenge on Jack Clarke.

“We conceded with their [Ipswich’s] first opportunity and the red card meant I had to re-organise the team in a 3-5-1. At the end of the game we came back into it by playing together,” he said.

“In the second half we came back with more possession. We created chances and had the ball and we got back to 2-2.

“We had the opportunity for the 3-2 but we missed it, and then at the end it’s really hard to concede in this manner. I’m frustrated for the players because they gave a lot on the pitch.”

Reflecting on his side having shipped 11 goals already, more than anyone else in the division, he added: “It’s too many goals conceded and I’m aware of that. Today we conceded less chances, but the opponent was very efficient.

“But we saw the same goal three times, a cross and then not winning the ball in our box.

“In the defensive unit I think we have made progress, but we have conceded too many crosses and are not winning the ball in the box, this is a new problem. It’s clear we have to be more efficient in that box.”

I'm sure Palace will be fine once they get the likes of Mateta and Sarr back. Providing they don't have a sulk fest at not getting moves they wanted. Other than that, their manager is right, very vulnerable to crosses and defence doesn't look great, though Ahanor does look useful.

We’ve only conceded one fewer goal- so what does that tell us about our own defence.

Ernie - it reminds us that we have played United and Liverpool!

Hmm..pointless Fulham managed a 0-0 at Anfield so maybe we made Liverpool look better than they are?

Fulham made a point at Anfield and are pointless no more.

we also conceded two very similar goals. Clearly something to work on there.

As for our defence, I think we all know we have a problem or two there, so it's something we'll have to contend with, hopefully work on and maybe look to do something about in January.

The biggest issue with our defence is the captain being played at right back.

Love the post-flow here. Even in victory, will every article end up with the question as to why Dara is RB ?! lol
