US Sports Media Personality Cowherd Among Town's Owners
Monday, 14th Sep 2026 13:33

US sports media personality Colin Cowherd has been revealed as a minority stakeholder in Town.

Cowherd, 62, is the host of Fox Sports’ The Herd, contributes to Fox NFL Kickoff and founded The Volume podcast network.

We understand Cowherd, whose late mother hailed from Leicester, was among those to invest through one of the investment funds already involved in the club at the end of last year as part of the ownership restructuring.

Brett Johnson from the Three Lions Fund and Bob Gold from Clara Vista Investments both raised funds from new investors to buy shares from PSPRS as the Arizona police and fire service pension fund reduced its stake in the club.

As a result, a new entity, Portman Holdings LLC, became the new majority shareholder in Gamechanger 20, the company which owns the club, with ORG, which manages funds on behalf of the pension fund, Clara Vista and the Three Lions holding broadly equal stakes. The restructuring valued the club at around £400 million.

Cowherd, who had previously looked at buying a stake in MLS teams, confirmed to Front Office Sports that he had become a minority stakeholder in the Blues but with the size of that investment not disclosed.

Last month, it was revealed that three-time NBA champion Udonis Haslem had also taken a minority stake in the club, again as part of last year’s restructuring.

It's also emerged that former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston, 43, is also among those to have invested in the Blues through his Champion Fund, also as part of the restructuring last year.

“They have a really buttoned up business outside of the game itself and now that the game itself has gotten them into a position where they were able to get promoted, we have a really good entry point and hopefully we stay up there,” he told Front Office Sports in July.

I like Cowherd. Has stood up for liberal democracy, against Trumpism, racism, facism etc. he’s no Nigel Farage. He also very good as a sports reporter.

What a great surname that is!
So, apart from Ed's 1%, we are totally owned by US companies and individuals?
I've never understood finance and big business so I have no clue!
Which probably explains why I live in a place where the electricity gets turns off for an hour a day and water runs out regularly.
Oh, and cows walk around the streets and have right of way.
I often wake up in the morning, open my door and find a cow standing outside my front gate.

Huh BB…you have a gate! I leave the house straight into a flooded lane and my veggie peelings for the cows are being eyed up by a monkey tribe.

Coming back to topic:
Well, I have something to say, but don’t know how to phrase it.
This US money has fuelled our meteoric rise.

Once upon a time we all bought shares in our club to show support in its hour of need knowing that the shares would likely soon be worthless.
Now it seems US capitalists buy into the club feeling that it is undervalued. And at the same time ensuring that those genuine supporters shares get diluted even further.

Now I can’t complain as this US money has so far been spent wisely and feel that besides the team, training ground, pitch and stadium enhancements. With probably greater stadium improvements to follow...

BB & Shady, stop it! It's beginningto sound like the 4 Yorkshiremen Python sketch, luxury!

Bottom line, this is the way international businesses diversify, grow and have fun with their portfolio. The key thing here is as long as the club revaluation continues to grow faster than the cash thats been put in (which is has admirably), all is well for them and for us.

With some £200m coming into the club via TV, Sponsorships and Commercial revenue, the pull on investors should be fairly slow now so they should continue to book profits, although we do have a football ground to finish and two stands (west upper deck and Cobbold) will be £250m (ish).

Gamechanger stated last summer a target of $1bn US market cap by 2030, (so thats seeing the value of the club rise from £400m to around £775m), so with the ground finished that feels about right.

Norwich City conversely is valued at £69m (plus 3 books of green shield stamps), which is roughly 1/6th of ITFC now, and 1/11th of target, has a capacity of 26k (we will have 40k) and is now light years behind us.

So (back to Python) if anybody says "what have the Americans ever done for us", there it is......

Incredible for those who remember Marcus Evans tenure. Never in a million years would we have hoped for the club to be valued anywhere near these amounts.

Norwich are trying to one up us by trying to get Hugh Jackman on board! I’m hoping we can get a big rapper or maybe Shaq O’Neil as a major shareholder lol

If he'd invested in Derby he'd be Cowherd of the County.

As an NFL fan, I spend way too much time watching/listening to his and Rich Eisen's content. The Club could learn a great deal from the way they deliver content in US and the likes of Rich and Colin...esp as he is now in-house !

On a serious note what is Ed Sheeran doing folding to the genocidal cancel culture US right ,not supporting a fellow artists right to highlight muder rape and torture against Palestinians is a very weak look for Ed , a bloke with his money and media exposure should stand up for the freedom to oppose genocide and support fellow musicians who do so by refusing to play at any venue that threatens to cancel their gigs..weak Ed weak

Don’t agree Bobble, I get sick and tired of artists actors musicians etc with too much to say!
Remember years ago Elvis was asked why he didn’t condemn something and he just said I am an entertainer, I have my opinions, which I will keep to himself then he was asked are people wrong for speaking out he said they have the freedom to say if they wish too!
Class!

Another performer from Eds tour is stepping out as they wont be supporting and enriching wealthy genocide enablers and want to support artists rights to freedom of speech and political views. ..
