Five Add to International Caps
Thursday, 24th Sep 2026 21:58

Dara O’Shea was among a number of Town players to add to their caps this evening, the Blues’ skipper’s Republic of Ireland falling to a 1-0 defeat in Kosovo in their opening Nations League tie.

O’Shea captained the Irish side which held out until the 83rd minute against a Kosovo side which had always looked the more likely winners with former Town keeper Aro Muric never seriously tested.

Chieo Ogbene, on loan from the Blues to Lincoln and winning his 36th cap, was also among the starters and spurned Ireland’s best opportunity in the 22nd minute, shooting over from a cutback from the right.

Just before half-time, O’Shea, who was winning his 46th cap, blocked a Veldin Hodža shot on the line.

Elsewhere, midfielder Sasa Lukic came on at half-time as Serbia were beaten 2-1 at home by Greece, the visitors netting the winning goal four minutes into injury time.

Lukic, playing for his national side for the 63rd time, is the first player with Town to win a cap with Serbia.

Abdul Fatawu played the full 90 minutes for Ghana as they were beaten 2-0 away by Cote d’Ivoire in their opening Nations League tie, the winger conceding a controversial penalty.

Fatawu, the first Town player to win a full Ghana cap, was playing his 33rd game for his country.

Blues U21s central defender Corbin Mthunzi came on in the 85th minute to win his fourth full cap as Zimbabwe came from 2-0 down to beat Sierra Leone away in their first Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, former Blues youngster Tawanda Chirewa scoring the equalising goal.

As a side note Bobble, personally I think that all sport should be amateur but I'm not sure that there'd be any support for that at all here! But yes, I agree that this context is far more important than kicking a ball about. And that from a Garneys/Phillips supporter.

This is only, good for us, our players having experience on the international stage. Although the games are not particularly high level, so I'm not sure how much they'll get from Nations League games.

Bobble, as usual no interest in football, and prefers tiktok theories.

@bobble go get your head down, this is a football match you're talking about not a war, keep war and politics out of sport.

He is representing his country Ireland, and the majority of irish people including me, think we should boycott the match as israel as a nation has not met the ideals of EUFA and broken 2 of its rules along with mudering 20,000 innocent children, cant see how this game is not political.....wnd if you non irish posters think otherwise who cares as he is not representing you, but Irish people have the right to say no dont play o shea....

You can (and should) express powerful sentiments about the rights and wrongs of Hamas on one hand (who were awful) and Israel’s retribution in Gaza and land grabs in the WB (also awful imho) without having to ask Dara and others to boycott the game. Wearing the black armbands was a powerful statement - although I’m unclear why that’s allowed but Poppy emblems are controversial
