Town Women Host Wolves Aiming to Maintain Unbeaten Start
Sunday, 27th Sep 2026 09:50

Ipswich Town Women host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the JobServe Community Stadium in Colchester this afternoon aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the season (KO 2pm, live on YouTube).

Having drawn their first two matches, the Blues, who are seventh in the WSL2 table, recorded an impressive 1-0 away win at Leicester City - who previously had a 100 per cent record - last weekend, Bethan Roe heading the game’s only goal just before half-time.

“Really pleased with the performance, it’s a very tough place to go,” manager David Wright told TownTV. “They’re a good team, really well coached, you can see that, so for us to go there and limit them to one shot on our goal and cause as many problems as we did in terms of scoring and hitting the bar.

“The goalkeeper made one of the best live saves that I’ve seen. If that’s not the save of the season, I’m looking forward to seeing the save that beats it. To go there and put such a good performance on, I’m over the moon.”

Princess Ademiluyi returned to the team as a second-half sub having been away with the England U20s at their World Cup in Poland and Wright is delighted to have the on-loan Gotham FC striker back with the squad.

“A brilliant experience for her,” he added. “She’ll be very proud of herself and I’m sure her family are very proud of her to go over there and represent their country. It’s brilliant.

“But [it’s great] to have her back and around the team on and off the pitch. She’s a great character off it and on the pitch we know the trouble that she can cause in a positive manner for ourselves and a negative manner for the opposition.”

Wolves, who are third in WSL2, were beaten 2-0 away at Newcastle in their opening fixture but since then have recorded back-to-back home victories, a 3-1 success over Sheffield United and then a 3-0 defeat of Burnley last week.

“They’ve been great,” Wright continued. “They’ve had a really good start. They’re a really, really solid team. You can see that they’re a team that are really together and it’s going to be a good old game on Sunday.

“We’ve just got to make sure we concentrate on ourselves, make sure we keep our level of performance in the direction that we’re moving and if we do that we’ll have a positive performance.”

Wright is pleased to be back at home after two difficult away games from which his side have taken four points and a great deal of confidence.

“We had a tough start, even the first game, Forest are a really good team, and then to have back-to-back away games at Southampton and Leicester, it’s been a tough start for the girls, but they’ve done brilliant,” he reflected.

“It’ll be nice at the weekend to get back to Colchester, get back in front of our home fans and hopefully we can put on a positive performance and we’ll leave the stadium smiling.”

How on earth did the Wolves goal be allowed to stand?
Surely one of the officials could have seen the ball was clearly out of play.
