Academy midfielder Chris Atherton came off the bench in the second half as the Republic of Ireland U19s beat the Faroe Islands 5-0 during their training camp in Slovenia.

Atherton, 17, who came on in the 63rd minute, was winning his fourth U19s cap having also come on as a sub during the 1-0 defeat to England at St George’s Park on Friday.

Blues keeper Alex Noonan is also at the training camp, and played the full 90 minutes against England, but was left out of the squad for today’s game.

Ireland’s U19s are coached by former Town forward Noel Hunt.

Elsewhere, Blues attacker Daizen Maeda was an unused sub as Japan beat Uruguay 2-1 in their opening fixture at the Kirin Cup.
