Walle Egeli Nets Hat-Trick For Norway U21s
Tuesday, 29th Sep 2026 19:11

Sindre Walle Egeli bagged a hat-trick for Norway’s U21s, while Abdul Fatawu picked up another full cap with Ghana.

The Norwegian youngsters came from behind to thrash Bosnia & Herzegovina 6-1 in Stavanger to confirm their qualification for next summer’s European Championship, the Blues attacker, playing as a number nine, netting the leveller on 14, then giving his side the lead just before the break.

The 20-year-old completed his treble in the 79th minute to make the scoreline 4-1 as the Bosnians collapsed the the latter stages.

“A really cool day,” he said afterwards. “It’s huge that we qualify, we've worked for this for a very long time. And it's fun to score goals, it always is.”

Walle Egeli, who has played one game for the Norway senior side, has now been capped 14 times at U21 level, scoring 10 times. In their European Championship qualifiers he has scored eight times in seven matches with one game still to play.

Fatawu played the full 90 minutes for Ghana as they were beaten 4-2 at home in Accra by Gambia in their second Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The Blues winger was winning his 34th full cap.

Meanwhile, a friendly between Fatawu's Ghana and Issa Diop's Morocco scheduled for Sunday in Tangiers has been cancelled, reportedly due to a row between the Black Stars players and their federation over unpaid bonuses.

Elsewhere, Anis Mehmeti starts for Albania in their Nations League tie in San Marino this evening, picking up his seventh cap and looking for his first international goal.

Well done Sindre, you continue to prove you are anything but a wide right player. Time for the memo to be received at PR I think. And he's smiling too!

I’m worried he’s going to replicate Odegaards story. He wasn’t given the opportunity and time to develop in Real Madrid and ended up in Arsenal as one of the best midfielders in PL.
GON is wasting Sindres talent. Why he wasn’t given any playtime against Arsenal in the cup is beyond me..
We’re going to lose him soon..

People.saying we are wasting his talents. Who do we drop for him then ?? Tell me please .
In the 10? So you'd drop enciso ??
In the 9? So you'd drop emmersonn who's scored played well for us ?
Drop flemming ?? Who scored 12 for burnley . 11 in prem last time ???
Excatly. There is no one to drop for him . Hes not physical enough to play in prem. He needs a couple of loans . Hes not the level we need. Played in championship alot last year . Yes out of position . But let's be honest he was bang avarage or slightly worse. Hes not prem level .

So thats two Town managers ( McKenna and now GON) not playing Sindre in his proper position. He's NIT a wide right player!

RetroBlue… in fairness to McKenna he said from the off that Egeli would end up in the middle. It was more a case of easing him into English football plus wide right was where he was playing at his previous club so it was a way of getting him minutes.

We are not wasting his talents and picking out GON for that?! He's only been here 5 mins and gave him a lot of time in the 10. Sindre needs time and patience. Definitely a player there as his u21 exploits and stats show. Needs to build his phyisicality. He might need a loan but right now he will be learning loads and training every day with better players than last season.

I think it's true that you do need at least some players in a PL team with a real physique and plenty of power, but that doesn't mean all 10 outfield players. Just one obvious example we've seen prove to hot for us to handle already this season. Alexander Isak, built more like two twiglet's strapped together than a weight lifter, absolutely no disrespect meant, merely making a point.

I understand all the sentiments listed above. My only wish is that he at least makes the bench, which he hasn't always done this season. Would hate to lose him, as I do think he could be massive for us.

Well done Sindre. I will not lose sleep over two of our players missing a friendly and being able to travel safely home to Ipswich earlier than expected.

GON has been plenty brave enough in selections so far though I do think there are 2 areas he will be well aware need addressing. First is the Captain/RB conundrum, which is only a conundrum if you refuse to drop O'Shea.

The second is Sindre. I think you can park an U21 performance against B&H as an indicator, but nevertheless he is young, talented and expensive....so GON will know there is a responsibility on him to develop the lad, which equates to game time at some point. However, let's judge that situation at the end of the season and not now, as he really should be levels above this game anyway.

Surely this is enough to grab GON's attention and elevate Sindre above Akpom in the pecking order.

Doesn't matter who's manager of the club he's not going to get much game time in the Premier league anyone who's played the game at a decent level can see that. He didn't exactly set the world alight in the championship . Most of his good performances have come at a low level preseason kick abouts and under 21 games. Managers are not in a position to give players who are struggling a run of games to further their development it's all about the team getting results. Players further their development by going out on loan and showing the right attitude. He's definitely got ability but he needs to show more desire and passion when he's on the pitch. Portman terrorists was a bit nearer the mark and made some good comments.

Well done. It would be good to see him on the bench and perhaps a catch to test him as a nine.

Linkboy13, I usually agree with much of what you post, just a small issue with one above, you don't need to have played the game at a decent level to understand it. I'm 71, the only level I ever reached was the dizzy heights of the school football team, but I'd back what I see against anyone. Most of your post after that was spot on. I think he's one of these laid back, laconic characters that is never going to display overt passion on the pitch. As long as he does what's required, I'm not bothered. He does remain a work in progress however.

armchair 59 i hope you are right and i am wrong because i want him to succeed but in the modern game you have to do the dirty work during games like defensive duties. At the end of last season he looked disinterested and McKenna could see that so he rarely got any game time . Perhaps at the end of the season we will discuss this again and i will hold my hands up if you are right. He really needs to go out on loan to probably a mid table championship team bearing in mind he didn't really pull up any trees last season. But he really needs to show more desire the days of the laid back players like Rodney Marsh are not accepted. Either way you dress it up he is not doing enough in the eyes of two managers to warrant a place in the team who i think you agree know much more than either of us but almost every player has a fan or fans who thinks he's the cats whiskers. I look forward to buying you a pint at the end of the season im 73 by the way.
