O'Shea, Ogbene and Lukic Win Caps
Thursday, 1st Oct 2026 21:56

Dara O’Shea skippered and Chieo Ogbene came off the bench as the Republic of Ireland drew 2-2 with Austria in the Nations League in Dublin, while Sasa Lukic was a second-half substitute as Serbia lost their tie 2-0 in Germany.

Former Blues loanee Troy Parrott opened the scoring for Ireland in the 12th minute with a brilliant solo goal.

And Parrott, now with Real Betis in La Liga, added the second from the penalty spot in first-half injury time.

But Austria pulled one back on 71, prior to Ogbene coming on as a sub four minutes later, winning his 37th cap.

On 77, the visitors levelled, before O’Shea, playing for his country for the 48th time, wasn’t far away from his first international goal, firing a shot from the edge of the box which the Austrian keeper did well to save.

Lukic came on as 67th-minute sub with the Serbs still looking for first a point after their first three Nations League matches. The Blues midfielder was winning his 65th full cap.

That O'Shea piledriver was unfortunate to be straight at the 6' 9" keeper. A little to eather side and it would have been some goal.

That chap Parrott, who I personally thought wasn't very good at all when he was here, has gone on and done well for himself. Well done Sir.

Dara has been one of Irelands best and most consistent performers over the past couple of years.

Being captain whilst all of the controversy over playing Ireland will have only improved his leadership skills. I am sure he will be relieved to get back to Suffolk after all that’s gone on the past two weeks.

bobble, I thought that but apparently it is based on head to head results if 2 teams are level on points. As ROI lost 1-0 to Kosovo then that explains the positions.
