Exequiel Palacios came on as a 69th-minute substitute as Argentina thrashed Burkina Faso 7-0 in a friendly in Buenos Aires overnight.

The 27-year-old was winning his 43rd senior cap with the Argentinians having one more friendly to play during this break.

That match, against Benin in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, will see Lionel Messi join the squad to play his final game in international football.

Elsewhere, academy central defender Oliver Wilkinson was an unused sub as England’s U18s were beaten 2-0 by Spain in the final of the UEFA Friendship Cup in Switzerland yesterday.

Wilkinson, 17, had started the Young Lions’ second two group matches, both wins, having been a late call into the squad.
