Blues' boss Joe Royle has named a squad of 17 for the trip to Crystal Palace on Tuesday night. Young midfielder Matt Bloomfield comes into the party as cover for skipper Jim Magilton.

Magilton is still sore after aggravating his shin and calf injury against Stoke on Saturday. The injury was caused by a two-footed tackle by Burnley's Mo Camara last Tuesday.

Bloomfield is yet to make a league appearance, although he did come on as sub in the 2-1 defeat at Notts County in the Carling Cup.

Tommy Miller, back from a knee injury, is likely to take Magilton's place should the skipper not make it.

On-loan midfielder Alan Mahon is not in the squad due to his hamstring injury. The Irishman will have a scan today to assess the full extent of the damage.

Academy product Ian Westlake is Mahon's likely replacement at Selhurst Park.

Striker Dean Bowditch is back in the squad after being left out at the weekend.

Squad: Armstrong, Bart-Williams, Bloomfield, Bowditch, Couñago, Davis, Kuqi, Magilton, Miller, Nash, Naylor, Price, Richards, Santos, Westlake, Wilnis and Wright.
