Town manager Joe Royle continues to wait on a potential new loan signing, having put in two firm enquiries. There will be no new addition before the visit of Crewe on Saturday but Royle is hopeful of capturing of one of the two players soon.

The Town boss says: “I've made phonecalls about a couple of players this week, none of whom will be in by Saturday and I'm waiting for a return phonecall.

“There'll only be one player coming in but I have made firm enquiries about two, either one of whom I'm sure will make a big impact here.”

Royle wants to increase his side's potency after a drop-off in the goals of late: “I'm unhappy with our goal threat at the moment but there are still sides scoring an awful less goals than us. It was only one game ago that we got three goals against Derby, and we scored one away from home last week. I just think we can do better.

“I think we've looked a little bit toothless lately, so if I can find the right player, not necessarily a front player - although I wouldn't rule out a front player - I will bring him in. But it's got to be someone who is going to have an impact on the squad whether he be a terrific supplier of chances or a terrific taker of chances.”

The Blues' boss says that he has received no enquiries regarding any of his squad and that's the way he likes it: “We've heard nothing at all, and I'm quite happy that way. We're looking to bring somebody in rather than lose players.”
