No New Striker?
No New Striker?

The improved form of Spanish frontman Pablo Couñago is making Town manager Joe Royle think twice about bringing in a new striker. Couñago got on the scoresheet at Oxford on Monday and looked somewhere near his best for the first time in some while.

Royle had been looking at lining up a new goalscorer but not says this may now not be necessary: "The way Pablo has played at times this past week would make those needs change. He has shown more often what we know he can do and, if he can keep that up and take it on, we may not have to bring someone else in.

"That said, we have contingency plans and if a player leaves that gives us more room to manoeuvre."

Royle will look at strengthening his squad via the loan market but a permanent signing looks unlikely unless someone else leaves.

The Town boss says that Georges Santos's proposed free transfer to QPR may well still happen: "The QPR thing is not dead but nothing has been done yet so he played [at Barnet]."

Santos injured his nose in last night's 2-1 reserves defeat against the Bees but the injury appeared unlikely to scupper any proposed move.

Ex-Town full-back Chris Makin played a half for Leicester City in a friendly against the MK Dons yesterday. A decision on whether he will be offered a deal by the Foxes is likely to be made in the next couple of days.
