Canada Bow Out
Canada Bow Out
Thursday, 14th Oct 2004 10:24

Jason de Vos and Canada bowed out of the World Cup at the Semi-Final Qualifying Group stage after losing 3-1 at home to Costa Rica. De Vos played the full 90 minutes and won his 48th senior cap.

Canada went ahead through Dwayne de Rosario in the 12th minute and that remained the score at the break. However, the Costa Ricans hit back four minutes into the second half through Paulo Wanchope and then twice in the last five minutes with the goals coming from William Sunsin and Carlos Hernandez.

Town target Jaime Peters, expected to make a decision on his future shortly, came on as a substitute. In the summer Peters had trial periods at Town, Millwall, Derby and Manchester United, with the Lions looking favourites for his signature.

While the Town management will feel sympathy for De Vos at Canada's lack of progress in the tournament, they will not be disappointed that he won't be involved in so many games or have to make as many long-haul flights over the next year as the lengthy CONCACAF qualifying process continues.

Canada's only remaining match is against Guatemala in Guatemala City on November 17th.
