U18s Draw in Derby

Town's U18s drew 1-1 at Norwich City on Saturday morning at the Canaries' Colney training ground. Former Norwich trialist Danny Haynes scored the Blues' goal after 67 minutes.

Town started the brighter side and Charlie Sheringham hit a shot just past Norwich keeper Shane Herbert's post.

Norwich grabbed the initiative and schoolboy Chris Martin shot over the bar and then hit a curling effort which had Town keeper David Blackmore scrambling across his goal. The ball went just inches wide of the Town post.

The young Canaries were putting most of the pressure on Town's back four - Synnott, Krause, Casement and Patten - and Matthew Halliday headed just wide.

Nicky Howell almost scored a fluke of a goal after an intended cross had Blackmore back-peddling to tip the ball over his bar.

On the stroke of half-time, Norwich youngster Adam Smith sent a free-kick just over Blackmore's bar.

Shortly into the second half it was Howell's turn to find the side-netting, while Howell was again on hand, this time to feed in Michael Spilane but he sent his shot over the bar.

With 67 minutes on the clock, Town midfielder Danny Haynes opened the scoring after he had been put through.

Town could only hold on until the 79th minute when Norwich equalized. Good work from Andrew Cave-Brown and Rossi Jarvis paved the way for Chris Martin who slotted the ball past Blackmore.

The final ten minutes of the match saw the referee the busiest man on the pitch as both sides went for the win with some crunching tackles, and both sides did well to finish with 11 men each on the pitch.

Town's U16s also drew 1-1 with their opponents from Norfolk.
