Murphy Move in July
Murphy Move in July

Waterford United manager Alan Reynolds says that the Blues will move for striker Daryl Murphy in July. The Irish U21 international had a second trial at Portman Road recently and Joe Royle is very keen to add him to his squad.

Reports in Ireland had suggested that Town would try to pin Murphy down with a pre-contract agreement but this appears not to be the case.

Reynolds says the Blues have told the Eircom League side that they look at signing Murphy in the summer: "The latest on Daryl is that I think Ipswich will wait until the end of the season. They'll hope to get promoted and then see what kind of budget they have."

Waterford want £100,000 for the former Luton Town trainee, a fee which would be no trouble to Town if they win promotion to the Premiership. However, if they are still in the Championship, the Blues may have to wait to bring in the 22-year-old.

Funds may become available via the possible sale of Darren Bent, the frontman having said that the end of the season may be the right time to move on if the Blues fail to win promotion.
