Bent Called Up

Former Town striker Darren Bent has been called up to the full England squad facing Denmark on Wednesday after Crystal Palace frontman Andy Johnson dropped out with a hamstring injury. Should Bent make his England debut the Blues would receive a windfall.

England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson confirmed earlier today that Bent had been added to his squad: "Andy is injured, we got a late phone call that he has a hamstring injury, so Darren Bent is in."

The deal which took Bent to the Valley over the summer saw Town receive £2.5 million immediately plus another £500,000 based on appearances for Charlton and England caps.

Bent, who has netted eight times in 12 games at England U21 level, scored twice on his Charlton debut yesterday as the Addicks beat a Sunderland side including Kelvin Davis and Tommy Miller 3-1 at the Stadium of Light.

Darren Ambrose enjoyed his Charlton debut less, receiving a red card for a studs-high challenge ten minutes into the second half.
