Liverpool confirmed their place in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff at Anfield on Saturday morning. The Reds are Town's next opponents as the young Blues continue their defence of the trophy.

Besian Idrizaj and Jimmy Ryan scored the goals for the Liverpool U18s in the second half. The fourth round tie at Anfield is due to be played before January 21st with Liverpool hoping to stage the tie early in the month.

The Blues defeated Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road in their third round match, Billy Clarke netting from the spot. The Irishman is already ruled out of the fourth round match due to the dislocated elbow he suffered in the reserves against Portsmouth last week.

Earlier in the season, the Town U18s defeated Liverpool 3-2 in a Premier Academy League game at their Kirkby Academy, with Liam Craig, ineligible for the Youth Cup, scoring twice and Danny Haynes once.
