Lordan on Trial at Cork

Released academy midfielder Cathal Lordan is on trial at Eircom League side Cork City. The 19-year-old was told last month that he has no future at Portman Road.

Lordan, whose brother Cillian is already a player with the Irish club, started training with Cork on Thursday but is also interesting sides in England and Scotland. Previously he has had unsuccessful trials at Gillingham and Southend.

Cork boss Damien Richardson said on Thursday: "Cathal is back from Ipswich for a couple of weeks and trained with us this morning.

"He has a number of cross-channel clubs chasing him but the real fact now is that the Eircom League has improved so much and is now a viable alternative to lads like Cathal. We'll sit down at the end of next week and talk to each other.

"I could see in training this morning that he is obviously a good player and it's a good opportunity for both Cathal and myself to get to know each other and see what we're both made of."

Lordan scored both goals in the 2-2 draw in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup final at Southampton last season.
