Joe: We Must Be Stronger
Joe: We Must Be Stronger

Boss Joe Royle says he needs to add strength and power to his squad ahead of next season. The Town manager says his side have been out-muscled on occasion this year.

Royle said: "I'm not saying that height and weight will be the main criteria, or anything like that. As always, we will be looking for people who can play.

"There is a tradition at this club for playing the game the right way and that will be maintained. There is an Ipswich way of doing things and I understand that, so we will continue to play our football.

"But it is obvious that we need to be stronger. There have been times this season when we have been out-hustled and we have had too many headed goals scored against us.

"We need to be more powerful. Take out Jason De Vos, Richard Naylor, Alan Lee and Sam Parkin, and it's obvious we don't have that much in the way of power.

"I don't think we can afford to fall short in that area. We need players for this division and I know who I want."

Royle is keen to add a central defender and a striker, preferably former loanee Ricardo Fuller, to his squad over the summer and also hopes to secure midfielder Jimmy Juan on a permanent contract.
