My God how bad was that defensively. One of the most incompetent performances from a back 5 I have seen from an Ipswich Town team in 45 years.

Shocking defence, probably made to look worse by a diabolical goalkeeper

What the f..k can I say about this match, poor town defence, invisible town centre midfield, and forwards trying to walk through to the goal, less said about Gerken the better.
This game reminded me of the Keane and Jewell years, come on Mick we are trusting you to be better.

poor poor poor got what we deserved. Apart from Freddy every one looked slow with no closing down. Didsy dropped deeper and deeper to get the ball. gerkin rooted to his line when could have claimed the ball to prevent 3rd goal. Ref could have sent off and give a pen for elbow on didsy just before 4th. but that aside we were 2nd best all night

We was diabolical defensively. Gerken is not good enough for League One let alone the Championship. He does not command his box and does not come off his line. The third goal was not Skuse's fault if Gerken actually came off his line then it would help a massive deal. If Bart was in goal he would have been straight off his line and would have claimed it as his ball. Bart deserved to have his Number One shirt back. Bart was playing probably his best football in a town shirt before his dad sadly passed away. Also tonight our midfield was non-existent apart from Skuse who was playing virtually in defence.

Douglas was terrible and I can now see why Brentford got rid of him. He is just a poor mans Skuse. We badly missed Bru or Bish there was no creativity at all in the team expect for McGoldrick and Sears. McGoldrick should not be having to drop to virtually defence to get the ball and make things happen. The whole defence fell to pieces like it did against Brighton and I would happily see Tabby back to play against Leeds, he is a million times better than Douglas not that that's very difficult. I wonder if we can recall Cameron Stewart and see what he is like... oh wait I reckon he doesn't work hard enough and that's why he has not even had a look in.

The players on yellow cards were all to scared to tackle in case they got sent off. However if a Reading player would have made any of those challenges then they would have got away with it. Murphy was completely in effective when he came on and Maitland-Niles done very little apart from his shot at end. Our two players what looked half decent was McGoldrick and Sears.

SORT IT OUT MICK!!!!!!!
We are counting on you Mick, I will give you a heads up. Changing the goalkeeper might be a start then address the defence!

I am not sure it warrants a match report....so its probably as easy to give ratings.
Gerken - 4 (a generous 4) Does not give confidence to the defence.
Chambers - 4 Looked very much out of sorts, not sure he should have stayed on in the first half.
Smith - 5 The pick of our defence
Berra - 4 Not at his best, and looked off the pace
Knudsen - 4
Skuse - 5 Effective to a point
Douglas - 2 Not sure he ever touched the ball
Fraser - 4 Not one of his better games
Sears - 6 livewire, was always our best player
Didz - 5 Went searching for the ball and was not in the last third to do anything
Pitman - 4 One great header where he was unlucky

Subs - Not worth scoring!

Have a hard core through the centre of your team is a good shout?
Tonight keeper poor, centre backs a bit below average, centre midfields poor (no playmaker), no centre up top.
We need Bart in goal, a settled back four, a playmaker who demands the ball (Bru, Bish, or McGoldrick) beside Skues, to take pressure off the defence and allow full backs and wide players to attack as well as defend. Murphy needs to regain last years form playing beside Sears up top?

All MM's shortcomings came to the top in one game. Very poor defence that has no pace with players in wrong positoions. Static central midfield that cant get forward and certainly haven't got the pace to cover breakaways plus they're too old so no future. Signing second rate players like Coke/Douglas/Tabb and contantly taking Irish youngsters that can't get into the under 21s let alone the first team squad. So much money wasted on so many players that wont make any difference is staggering!

Very poor performance, result was totally deserved of the display. Naive management and tactics, shocking defending, abysmal goalkeeping and for the most part, a blunt attack... could it have been any worse?

embarrassing defender and non existent midfield, we cannot continue to play Skuse and Douglas together and we cannot continue to play Chambers at right back. Move Chambers inside and drop Smith who simply is not good enough. As for the goalkeeper ??? come on Mick everyone can see that he is a liability, he never comes off his line to help centre of defence, Bart is a much better option. Need pace and fight in midfield. On the plus side I thought McGoldrick, Sears and Fraser tried to play some good football. Long season ahead, early days, and I am sure Mick and Terry will sort it out.
