Woohoo! First win v Watford in 8.5 years.
We're not perfect yet but we got a clean sheet and I like the way that we keep going right to the end. Full credit to our travelling support who certainly made themselves heard and to Scott Loach...must have been a lot of pressure on him. Another good game from Hyam. The subs were effective.
Bring on Blackpool.

Fantastic result - well done lads - what a start to the season - holding Blackburn to a draw - relegated sides always provide difficult opposition - and now this! Couldn't be happier for all involved

Just seen the goal and PJ's interview on SkySports...anyone else wondering what Zola had on top of his head?..he looked like the Fonz with a perm.

GET IN!!!!

After going for the last 4 years we have finally won away to Watford...!! Just got back from the game (i dont live far from Watford) So here goes some thoughts for those that couldnt make it....

In Sumary we were ALL OVER them in the first half. Loach had nothing to do. We closed them down from the front (mainly Martin) and we gave them no time on the ball at all all over the pitch. 2nd half we started slow and it was obvious Zola had a word with his tea and they started playing again. Considering they have 2 LUMPS as centre backs we lacked that final ball through the middle to allow Chopra & Martin to use their pace. It seemed that we kept going wide and hoping that JET and Carson would come of with some magic.... After 20 mins we started to play again and we had a few chances. Chopra missed a sitter (looked like it from the other side of the stadium) and Jet should have done better. Chopra & JET werent having the best of games and their touches let them down more often than not (still showing small bits bit brilliance tho).... The crowd wanted Scotland on with 25mins to go and finally he came on with 14mins to go. With his presence we kept the ball better and Luongo kept his cool the whole game. Lovely play creaeted Luongos chance when he hit the post which shortly followed Scotlands chance which went straight to the keeper!!

Then FINALLY the goal came and this play shows how different we are from last season! We kept the ball well and we didnt panic... Great play from Luongo, Martin and mainly Edwards..... Edwards took it round a fe wplayers and played a great ball in for CHopra to tap it in!!

GREAT SUPPORT from town fans may i add..

Loach - he clearly loves town and when he was down our end he kept us going and when we scored he was so close to dive into the crowd!!

Edwards - pure class today and seemed very composed on the ball. He looked quick today!

Chambers - SOLID!!! First time iv seen him... he was very good!

Smith - He was ok. A few moments when he could have done better but was good in the air.

Creswell - solid as usual and distributed the ball well.

JET - IMO a poor game. He doesnt seem to want to jump for a header and lost the ball too often. He needs to place the balls before smacking it.

Luongo - first time iv seen him and he played well.... Controlled the middle with Hyam and always wanted the ball. He should have scored but kept us going.

Hyam - Once again played well. When Iwelumo came on he even beat him in the AIR!!! He did nearly score an own goal (thank god for the cross bar)

Carson - he was ok but IMO he isnt strong enough to start. Some good play but we need a more solid Left winger....

Martin - BRILLIANT! He never stops... great bits of skill... Almunia pulled of a great save from a shot of his in the first half. He needs to sign a new contract ASAP.

Chopra - not a great game but thats why he is a poacher!! He should have scored at least 2 today. Worked hard but his touch let him down.

MOTM - either Luongo, Martin, Edwards or Chambers.

I'm over the moon and we massively deserved it!!!!

COYB!!!

Sorry if some of it doesnt make much sense... 1 or 2 too many beers!! :-)

Nice touch from G Zola in his interview after, he said we played the better football and deserved the victory, great win this for many reasons, not too worried about Hoodoo's, a clean sheet and playing til the end are far more satisfying positives to take from this, hopefully we can build on this progress and add some consistency, we will get out what we put in this season just like any other, I'm feeling comfortable and confident that we will have a good one! Come on you blues .

I was there last night and it was my first time watching the team since April now ive moved to Watford. I think that as a starting 11 goes we have got the balance of youth and experience just right. The likes of Hyam, Luongo and Smith are doing well and they are being well supported by those with more experience Edwards, Chambers, Martin et al. As it goes Smith shinned a ball out of play a couple of times with 5 mins to go and i actually saw Cambers go over and tell him to calm down and relax. Great To see IMO.

As mentioned i havent seen us play this year yet and i though that Chambers, Luongo and Martin were excellent throughout. Chambers and Luongo looking like astute signings by PJ. Cressy and Edwards did the necessary well and although i think we need a right back it is bloody lovely to have someone who is fast enough to catch the winger again if he does go past. Watfords wingers looked surprised to go round Edwards then lose the ball again!!

JET and Carson were out of sorts and their replacements (Drury and Scotland) gave us something a little extra. Would like to see more of Drury but i dont know where to put him atm with the middle 3 working so well together. As i have said Martin is looking like a top quality attacking mid and having Luongo and Hyam is definitely giving him the freedom he needs.

As for Chops, he didnt have the best of games all told, but his work rate was second to none and once again he proved that if you give him 90 minutes he will always score. Which is exactly what we need from him i think.

I also need to mention the man himself, Scott Loach. I follow him on twitter and am aware he received a lot of stick from Watford fans last night for his celebrations in front of us when we scored and when we won. For me he is now an absolute hero. To see a guy playing in the blue of Town and loving it as much as he is is fantastic in my opinion. And in fairness the squad looks to be playing for the badge now too which again is great news.

All in all i would be happy to throw it out there that this was one of the most complete 90 minute performances i have seen for many seasons. We looked hungry and our passing at times was slick and at a high tempo. We looked relatively solid at the back and were able to play well and beat a team like Watford, who did look poor. But weve said for many seasons, if we want to challenge we need to win these kinds of games. I know its still early but im hopeful this run can continue and that it gives us a good a base for the season.

Some excellent comments from especially dreblue & gazzmac4. It appears promising doesn't it, certainly better than the last couple of seasons. Additional striker as back up for Chops and another centre half ansd we'll have a chance of top 6. Another tricky game on Saturday, Blackpool are no mugs at Bloomfield Road. Happily take a draw there. Keep it up

Great to see us beat the Hornets, but leaving it a bit late to score?

....first game of season and what a great way to start....thought throughout the team we looked comfortable and certainly played for each other.....what a fantastic assest Scott Loach will be if he continues to react like that....at last a player who clearly wants to play for the shirt....Watford fans must be wondering how they lost him and got Alumunia (??) instead. Just sheer relief at the end when we deservedly scored.....been such a long time since I was in a crowd that reacted like that.....hugging and cheering with strangers all over the place....brilliant. Ref was absolutely diabolical and Watfords physical approach will surely change under a legend that is Zola.....onward and upward but already that performance made up for so many of last years dissapppointments...COYB
