Edwards desperately needs to pass the ball. Runs well. Gets in good space but just doesn’t pass. Not impressed by graham in the slightest.
Pennington was excellent. Walters shows class. Nolan looks an exceptional signing....he looks a championship version of Paul scholes.

Good games: Pennington, Walters, Spence, Nolan. Edwards runs well but needs to pass the ball.

Atrocious first half. In the second we improved by deciding to hit hopeful up-and-unders into the box. Every set piece they had was a nightmare, and we seem to be frightened of clearing the ball—no confidence around our own box at all. Midfield nowhere today. Edwards lots of running nowhere—did he ever actually beat his man or get a telling cross in? Graham awful. Nolan looks like he might develop into an adequate replacement for Stephen Gleeson—we need Huws, Bishop, and Dozzell back ASAP. Not optimistic after that—offer me 20th in May, and I'll take it in a heartbeat.

Game of two low quality teams, the only consolation there being that Norwich are crud.

We reverted back to the old, direct, ball over top style, that hasn't been the case in Hurst's first games - interesting that he'd change it up all of a sudden. Town had lots of chances but no quality to make them count. Jackson worked hard but several poor touches and not sticky enough, poor first touches.

Nolo still looking our most talented footballer, in terms of being a considered passer of the ball. But made a few mistakes and it was his failure to clear ultimately that cost their goal - but they had several chances themselves so can't blame only Nolo.

Pennington looked solid, a little slow but very solid. Spence had a decent enough game.

Chalobah needs to stay behind after training and practice shooting from 18 yards.

Walters was great, shows what we've missed at the start of the season up front. That said he was culpable for missing a couple of chances. (The problem is you need Walters not to be your best player in a game.) Overall probably our second best player to MOM Edwards, who played very well and was always an outlet, and Norwich putting two men on him showed how important he is to Town already.

The two wide men stayed very wide first half and that left nolo and scuse idolated in the middle. Plan B second half was largely to just bang it forward - and it rattled Norwich to be fair, but we didn't have quality to make the decisive finishes, and you could argue from a broader perspective, we don't have quality to not go to that gameplan.

V interested to see what we do next, since this game for me was a big break with how we played our opening games of the season.

Overall, gutted we didn't win as we had the lead. Even if Nodge had chances, by god so did we. And having drawn first blood i'm disappointed.

The question mark hanging over Town fans will simply be: where is the quality we need to make a difference in games this season.

So many new players that we still look that we need to know where people are/will be on the pitch and that will only come from the training ground and games. Sometimes a typical Derby match, we still seem to invite teams to attack us rather than get the foot in, which enables them to push on more and create.

However early second half we really put them under pressure and the goal was fully deserved. Edwards shot was sublime from the CO-OP stand view point, cannot wait to see the highlights. However as much as we look like we can score we also look like we fall asleep at the back and again let the opposition score. I think we sat far to deep and the opposition goal was inevitable.

Would liked to have seen Walters hit his first half chance so early in the game rather then try to play (Edwards) in. still looking for that first win, still looking like work in progress. The win will come. Think Walters made a big difference and liked the two up front much better then the 1 up front tactic from earlier games. Chalobah is most definitely not a midfielder, I would prefer him not to have a shot but look to pass when on the edge of the box, you know that ball is always going to sky.

Overall back home pleased with the game, excellent atmos in the second half the crowd really got together and started singing which really lifted the game. Would like to hear more stadium singing rather then just the north or south. Funny did not sing so much when to were attacking the SAR stand in the first half.

Glad Pennington was at the back, took charge and shouted lot at other players giving direction. Nolan creates but is he better than Dozell. Edwards was double marked, or tries to many tricks at times. But ot many times when he passed the defender.

I think we need to be more aware of the second ball, or where it might end up, our second ball coverage is where Norwich got a lot of possession to create. They seem to practice where people will be in certain situations, which we seemed to lack always looking for players or space, but not necessarily the intended knowing where they were supposed to be.

Ball up and under to much, to many head tennis going on. Only a few players capable of getting it down and trying to create.

Overall more pleasant to watch than last 5 years of football, but still room to improve. Entertained I was.

We looked very good attacking and defending. Glad Pennington was at the back making and creating plays. Edwards also looked very good on the wing and an absolutely subline goal to put us one nil up. Walters looked good upfront having a go at times but I still think that he should have shot rather than passed it. I also felt like the ref was a bit harsh at times against us. Graham looked quite good as well on the wing. The linesman were not up with play and their were 2 occasions where the Norwich strikers were offside and the linesman didn't give them as offside. luckily they didn't score.

Overall I was very happy with the performance but still got 5 years of rubbish to forget Still yet to get a win though Hursty. When will it come?

The jury has been out about Hurst's mate Nolan, but today he was truly abject. Today was his sixth game and I've concluded he's not ready for Championship football. Completely lost the plot on the big stage today. At fault for their goal when he dived in rashly. He is sooo negative. We have a defensive midfielder already, as an advanced midfielder he needs to offer much more positivity. In every chance we had to break, Nolan was a hindrance, not a help. Today was his sixth game and I have yet to see him make an incisive forward pass. He was negative, wasteful and fouly. Our possession was either slowed or lost with his involvement. Just not good enough. Downes or Dozzell please.

Zero youth players on the pitch today at the club that was once the greatest academy of football in the country. Evans talks a good game, but his actions (managerial appointments) contradict them. Is it any wonder we fail to hold onto talents like Ben Knight.

Plenty of positives today. Pennington looks good. Graham's corners are spot on. Walters & Jackson linked up well. It will come good.

Ordinary first half from both teams, but the atmosphere electric from both sets of supporters, so good to see Portman Road rocking again.
The second half was of far better fare with the players starting to step up to the plate. I need not go into more match detail as most Ipswich supporters within the area should have been at the game, but I will add my verdict on some of the performances.
All pre Hurst players, Gerken, Knudsen, Skuse (until injured) and even Spence played well, with Chambers outstanding.
Of the newbies, Walters and Pennington, outstanding, Edwards, exciting, great goal but would be better playing on the right?, or switch wings? Jackson has pace and could form a partnership with Walters as could Harrison. Chalobah did well in replacing Skuse. Nolan at the moment was not the playmaker that we so desire, while Graham was very poor, a very slow passenger in this game.

Too many passes went astray at critical times. Plus crosses/corners were too high with attackers little chance of converting.
Walters was great as was Chambo and Pennington. Hope Huws and Bish are back soon as PHs recent recruits look below par.
Cant understand why Rowe wasn't given a run as Graham well short of match fitness and ward offers no threat. Hope he plays well for U23s as do others to add more competition for places.

Pennington should be nicknamed 'Dyson' because he was hoovering up everyting that came his way. He also supplied a long pass which nearly saw another town goal. Very happy with this signing.

Nolan was ok, Walters very good and Jackson looked more of a threat than Harrison has so far this season.

Sadly, Graham was below par for whats required at a championship game, nevermind a derby. Chambers lead well.

Thought the first half was poor, but that 20 minutes or so of the 2nd half was a blinder. The North Stand was pumping. Shame we couldnt net another which would have killed it off. I hoped to see Tayo in action but maybe PH thought this wasnt the enviroment given his red earlier this season.

PH was very brave to replace Bart. I had my head in my hands when I saw he was dropped. But Gerken did well.

Edwards I thought was our target man - balls flew into him, and 2 or 3 Canaries would soon surround him. He did really well, took his chance. I've no issue with him running with that ball, I love it. He takes players on, full throttle. Yes, once or twice a ball could have been passed but to be honest I'd rather see someone take on defenders and get under thier skin making 10 runs, 7 of which would be successful and 3 not.

Well played town.
