The thing is, we have been a team going nowhere for a few seasons, so nobody has paid much attention to us. A team not threatening promotion or flirting with relegation is not newsworthy. As soon as it was mentioned MM was off, all the "experts" like Darren Gough pop up saying bcwywf. People who had not looked at us for 2 or 3 years. Yes MM did a good job of keeping us up on a tight/non existent budget, but that's half the story. The football was terrible and the relationship between fans and manager had broken down, MM had to go. What this debacle demonstrates, is that ME is not fit to run a football club (properly). That is the real story, not the fans forcing MM out. It was clear all last season that there was a strong possibility MM could go. It was confirmed well before the end of the season. ME had plenty of time to be looking at suitable replacements and then lining 1 up. It was always going to be difficult after MM, so we needed somebody in sooner rather than later. If PH was always the main target from early on, but was held up due to Shrewsbury play offs, to then sack him after 15 games, is ME admitting how terribly wrong he got it. 1 more terrible decision to add to his list since becoming owner. And now for Lambert. A man who could not handle a small budget afforded him at Villa. Who resorted to anti football in his attempt to keep them in the Premiership. Who did nothing to rescue Stoke. At least with PH I had some hope for the future, even if it was in League 1. |

Cloughie had the last laugh though didn't he, taking Forest to 2 titles and 2 European Cups. Just think if Leeds had stuck with him and the players had gone with what he was trying to do, instead of throwing their dollies out, because he was changing the old ways of the previous gaffer. Perhaps there is alot to learn from Leeds and Clough. [Post edited 25 Oct 2018 13:14]

To go 1 down early on, come back to 2-1, be pegged back late on, but still go on to win is also a positive. You could have understood it had heads gone down and we dropped more points. The run of fixtures to the next international break in November will point to whether yesterday was the turning point. We play QPR, Millwall, Preston and Reading in the next 5 games. 10 points from them and we can say we are moving ving forward. |

Considering the strength of the US squad (6 of the world's top 10 players), it's an amazing performance to be so clear of them at this stage, especially as they were 3-0 up. Generally at Ryder Cups though, Europe lead after the pairings, then US win the singles. I'd go with 15-13. |

So bring Warburton in, he doesn't win for 10 games, get rid of him? I admit, it leaves me wondering where a win is coming from, when the last 2 games were as good a chance we will get. Playing 10 men for an hour in 1 game, then 2-0 up at HT in the other. However, many of us wanted change, a longer term view, so to then be grumbling within weeks of the new season, means that actually we wanted a change on the proviso things didn't start badly, which was always the risk. |

But wasn't the idea of PH coming in, to give him time to build something? After 4 games, a lot of fans had thrown the towel in. Personally I wanted Warburton to replace MM, but think it too soon to be changing manager. |
| Forum Reply | The sooner we sack Paul Hurst the better. Already this is the worst ever start at 19:26 23 Sep 2018
We knew it would be a challenge when MM left, no matter who came in to replace him. It's been a gamble to bring in a lower league manager, try to play a different style, let experienced players go and replace them with a dozen lower league players with potential. Ok it's been a worse start than we would have expected but everybody at the club must have realised what the situation was when taking this new route. To sack PH now would be yet another gamble. To rip it all up and start again. Back to a short term plan of avoid relegation, keep it tight, frustrate the opposition... Didn't we want to get away from this? 37 games to go. 13 wins, 8 draws and 16 defeats would almost certainly guarantee survival. 11 wins, 7 draws, 19 defeats may well be enough. I am positive things will click and that sort of record to end of the season is achievable. |

Last season, next to bottom Brentford lost their 7th game of the season to Sheff Wed. This secured Sheff Wed a play off place and Brentford relegation. |

Yes after 5 games let's declare this longer term plan an absolute failure, sack the manager for an experienced manager who will grind us to safety, and bring in a load of experienced journeymen. |

If things turn nasty after 6 games, when we got the much needed change we were after, then we would deserve to be relegated. We have to give it time, a full season. We won't get relegated, I have total faith in PH. |

Looking at it is fine. Going in to meltdown over it after 5 games is ridiculous. |

Then after 50 years your comment is even more embarrassing. A lot has changed over the summer, hence the current situation. Were you whingeing when things weren't going well under Bobby Robson? |

Yeah same old whingers who call themselves supporters. |

Long term plan is where he is going wrong. We just need to grind out points game after game, avoid relegation and celebrate mid table mediocrity. Next season, repeat. |
| Forum Reply | What’s the obsession with the table so early on in the season?? at 10:08 25 Aug 2018
We won the first 4 games last season, which didn't result in promotion, or anywhere near it. I've always maintained you take a judgement after 12 games and at half way in this league. I am sure it will click and we will have a good 2nd half of the season. |
| Forum Reply | This 'one-upfront' philosophy. at 10:03 25 Aug 2018
So after 4 games you're assuming he is never going to do something different? Maybe this is his preferred system and wants to get the team functioning this way before trying alternatives. We'd all be complaining if a new manager came in and chopped and changed the system game after game just because we hadn't won. |
