Morning all I hope you all had a healthy happy Christmas. Two of my presents this year have been a couple of starter kits from Airfix, both in 1/72 scale. One was a Spitfire and the other a Sherman Firefly tank. As soon as I saw the boxes I was opening them up looking at the pieces, wonderful memories of being a child again. Lovely stuff. |

Has anyone found something odd in gas mark 5 food ? I remember when Lady B and I got our first house in the 90’s,we were both working full time and tea time was tight for time so it was gas mark 5 all the way. I had a Birds Eye fish pie anyhow I was tucking into it and found a rather long hair,so long in fact when I pulled it out of my mouth it was longer than my middle finger. A letter was written to Birds Eye with the hair attached to the paper using sticky tape, and I got a letter back with some vouchers. I have never had a fish pie since. |
| Forum Thread | This season was always going to be a struggle. at 06:09 9 Dec 2024
I’m sure if we were really being honest about it we’d all feel the same. I have always said 17th is the target this season,so we will always be in or around the bottom 6. My dear old Ma God Bless her would always say to me ‘never expect to much out of life that way you won’t get disappointed if things don’t work out’. We are not too far away from 17th place are we. Keep smiling people it will soon be Christmas 🎅. |
| Forum Thread | Whilst staying the night in The White Hart Hotel in Braintree. at 05:28 11 Nov 2024
On Saturday night after a party of sorts,I was rudely awakened by a car alarm going off.So I jumped out of the bed and saw a chap wearing a hoodie who had broke into a car.He just stood there as the alarm was kicking off then hid up behind a wall. I was amazed he didn’t really care that much just waited for the alarm to reset and walked off.He was armed with a longish piece of thin metal of sorts,I tried to open the bedroom window and shout at him but the blooming window had one of those daft cords on meaning it only opened a few inches. He was interested in this car as I could see it had a high vis jacket covering over some tools in the back. |
| Forum Thread | So I had a crash on my bike Tuesday Morning. at 04:04 8 Nov 2024
I was doing my usual circuits round Benters and the surrounding villages,I mostly keep to the same route in the winter months due to bad road conditions and pot holes etc. I was slowing down to turn left as I turned into the lane some kind of fluid probably Diesel from a lorry or farm machine had been spilled on the road,my front wheel went from under me and crash bang whallop over I went. Thankfully nothing is broken, just skinned my arm and leg also banged my head, that scared me as when I’ve fallen off before I’ve never hit my head. Still as Mark Cavendish would have done,I jumped up straightened my brake lever and carried on for a further 15 miles. I just wanted to say to people if you think you don’t need to wear a cycling helmet when you are cycling,my advise is you do. |

As the song goes. I have spent the last few weeks cutting back some of my hedges etc getting ready the winter months. Yesterday I noticed one of my Hollyhocks I took from the beautiful village of Debenham, when they were tiny little seedlings is flowering again after I cut it back. Some of my roses have buds on them too,and typically after a wet spring and a poor show in Butterflies 🦋 I seem to be seeing loads of them now. Isn’t nature wonderful, there is always something to look at. |
| Forum Thread | Yesterday travelling by train. at 07:15 4 Oct 2024
I went into Colchester yesterday from Benters Central,on the return journey I was greeted by two ticket inspectors on the approach to the station platform, not only that they had with them two ‘Revenue Protection Officers’. I have never seen these before,I also got checked on the train by the conductor.I am old School and believe if you travel by train you should buy a ticket. The funny thing was a couple of yoofs laden with pizza boxes thought they would just push past all four of these people, their argument was they were only going to the next stop so didn’t need to buy a ticket. They got turned around and wouldn’t let them on the platform. So off they trudged down to the Hythe. |

I managed to get as far as 7th August using my water butts to water my plants, and yesterday I had to start using my hose pipe. Still that’s pretty good I guess,we do need rain though everything is so dry in my garden in North Essex. |

Hello good people I hope to find you all healthy and well. How are your waterbutts doing? So far to date I have four 240 litre rammed with Adams Ale as my dear Grandmother called it,one 80 litre waterbutt connected to my main down pipe,I then drain it off into my surplus butts and four 80 litre dustbins full! I had started to use old milk bottles to collect more rain water, but Lady B thought it was a tad odd. In other news Yesterday I saw two Butterflies and a few bumble bees, they seem very slow to start up this year. Then a thunderstorm arrived and that was that. |
