Rewatching The Sopranos' start to finish - list of 5. *Spoiler within*
at 21:09 23 Sep 2021

In 02' while having a spell in NY i went to a gig in Asbury Park, The Stone Pony (Ipswichs' own The Adidicts btw), met a bird from Longbranch. saw her for a couple of years going back and forth. Anyway, i wasnt allowed to mention The Sopranos, I met a 'connected' guy, named Joe Rizzo, which made me laugh as Midnight Cowboy and The Jerky Boys were a big influence on me going to NY years before, saw some others, parts of NJ shore are lovely, people were great with me as i don't think they'd ever met an English person down there! Happy days!

Watford was the 'start' of their season really. 3 points from those first 4 fixtures would have been a result. Joking apart, for a newly promoted team, those opening fixtures were brutal. Usually a promoted team are given a 'glamour' game in the first 2 matches. Unless the prem' are just bored of them and want them done asap?.

He went to Italy, didn’t work out, but 9 in 14 shows the promise there you spoke of.

With the loss of his Father this week, had his old man been ill for sometime? May have been affecting him, we don’t see him apart from interviews, we all know how domestic matters can impact performance at work. Hopefully it puts his mind at rest, supporters get behind him and him and ITFC help each other.

Joking aside, I actually though they’d been shafted a bit with their opening fixtures, Liverpool, Man City, Leicester, and Arsenal, games they’d probably write off spread through the season, so to get them all at once was hard. But funny.

Hopefully shortages of fireworks? Christmas should have been abolished years ago anyway, hopefully this will speed up that process. Hasn’t been any cop since Wizard were in the charts.

Your 911 memories...
at 20:18 10 Sep 2021

I was in the Constantine Road ticket sorting out Moscow Visa forms . 8 months later I was living in NY, used to go running along river down to a then almost cleared Ground Zero. It was a fantastic summer in NY, a real sense of coming out of the darkness. We did have a power cut one Saturday when a power station had a fire, that did get a few bums twitching and eyes to the skies as smoke bellowed up and over the city.

Going to the pub
at 08:07 9 Sep 2021

Update, Belstead Arms, 6.15, couple of families eating, but also 10-15 boorish young men thinking it was Saturday afternoon, England shirts on, loud, making it uncomfortable for the diners. Missus asked to leave after the drink. Shipwrights, a few in, but has a Japanese noodle/sushi restaurant attached! Businessman from Essex has bought it, has several little hotels in Clacton, though he’d try his luck here. Anyway, his uncle was in there, 55 years old Indian chap from Coventry, good chap, knew ITFC golden years history, loved me telling him more details about players of the time. He also told me the landlord of the Silver Star said he didn’t want ‘his type’ in there, this when he was with some white friends. Couldn’t believe it! Still can’t as I write this.

Going to the pub
at 10:26 8 Sep 2021

The wife came up with a list of Ippo pubs she’s never been in, so since last Thursday we’ve been on it, bit dine and dash to cover the distance, but a very interesting trip. Thursday afternoon, Brewers, St Judes, maybe 5 people in each. Friday, lunch in Lavenham, then in evening, Kinfisher, Kitchener and Red Lion, all had punters in, but 10 max at 6.30, Kitchener had 2, but was setting up for karaoke. Wanted to stay longer as got into conversation with Gino Washington’s lad about old times in Town, but missus wanted to cross off Red Lion..
Saturday afternoon, Flying Horse, 4 in, Inkerman, 2 in garden, and an odd wake/wedding( hard to tell, poss traveller, a real odd looking bunch), 10 of them in bar. Last night, after carpet bowls( really!), The Station, surprisingly well maintained, 5 in.
Tonight, Shipwrights, now some sort off b&b, but with a bar, onto The Smock, possibly Belstead Arms to eat. This leaves The Waterlilly, who’s trip advisor reviews made the wife consider crossing it off the list😂

The Guvnor, Fred Dinage! Anyone remember Ipswichs’ own Heidi Leschelder? Think she won it in the mid 70’s? Her folks had The Heidelberg next to the Cock and Pye. With the footy, the speedway, her and Brian Cant the Town was on a roll!

A reflective piece on England’s black cricketers

Still going, part of Totally Wired radio. Some interesting guests of late. Butcher put an album out on Acid Jazz a few years ago. AJ were sponsors at Surrey and, I think, the Holioake brother who passed away.

Yup, Spurs let him go after 15/6 years service with plenty of years ahead of him, we were in, then Arsenal came along, so he didn’t have to move and it was a middle finger up to Spurs.

Butcher was on The ’Modcast’ podcast a couple of months ago, very interesting views on why more black lads didn’t pursue cricket.

Anyone tried framing a shirt themselves?
at 11:56 1 Sep 2021

I tried a Kuqi shirt I had myself, wrapped it around a cardboard former, pinned it, and sandwiched it in a frame I got from Woolies. It was ok, but not a patch on the ones I’ve had done professionally, much deeper frame used.
