No, a football club does not have to settle (i.e., pay out) a player's contract just because they accept a transfer bid from another club. Here’s how it typically works: Transfer bid acceptance: When the selling club accepts a transfer bid, that simply gives the buying club permission to negotiate with the player. It doesn't automatically terminate the player's contract. Player agreement required: The transfer can only happen if the player agrees to personal terms (e.g., salary, contract length) with the buying club. The player is not obligated to leave just because a bid is accepted. No settlement if player moves: If the player agrees to the transfer, their existing contract with the selling club is terminated by mutual agreement, and the new club takes over with a new contract. In this case, the original club doesn’t owe the player anything further under the old contract. Settlement may be needed if terminating early without transfer: If the club wants to terminate the contract unilaterally (e.g., releasing a player without a new club), they may have to negotiate a settlement for the remaining value of the contract. So, unless the player is being released or the contract is being terminated outside of a transfer, no settlement is typically required. |

A bit harsh on Sussex by the Sea! I have a number of Brighton supporting friends and this has been a constant for years! Are Ipswich fans therefore not allowed to sing Edward Ebenezer or Baggies not allowed to sing The Lord's My Shepherd?! [Post edited 7 Oct 2024 13:05]

It looks like he joined from West Brom when Burnley reached the Prem. After Burnley walked the Champ and failed in the Prem..........Once bitten, twice shy perhaps? Fancies his Prem career being longer with a proven Prem club rather than a newbie. |
 | Forum Thread | Does Moore's loan period include playoffs? at 10:29 6 Mar 2024
Should we have to rely on playoffs I remember losing Matt Elliot before the West Ham game due to his loan ending. I'm hoping this is not the case with big Kieffer! |

The Welly is definitely home fans only. Gloucester Road is rammed full of places to drink!! |
 | Forum Reply | How long has Schumacher.... at 00:17 12 Feb 2023
Agree. Schumacher was already at the club as assistant however & so was part of the process. I think that’s more relevant to address. But it is still very short term as an appraisal & I reiterate is exceptional performance rather than the norm. |

If the naysayers are unhappy that the team they support is not competing at the top end of the football pyramid then join the club! If however wanting to progress & spending my cash & time supporting the team & trying to be positive makes me a happy clapper then I will gladly reclaim that moniker! Check your privilege! We have had many years of under investment. |

Don’t accept the appointment of a young manager in his first position & moan when you don’t get instant success. It’s a process. Wed & Plymouth are showing us how to compete & this is not their first crack at promotion. We hoped (beyond hope) after the Evans years that we would get instant success. We are still in the mix for promotion & I personally hope that today gives the team a swing in perspective. COYB! |
 | Forum Thread | iFollow International… help please! at 06:16 8 Oct 2022
Is the game today available on video stream? The only choice available seems to be audio compared to video passes for upcoming matches. There is a choice for a monthly video pass at £30. Help from the international TWTD community would be really appreciated! |

 | Forum Thread | Paul Cook Previous Track Record at 11:55 25 Nov 2021
Interesting reading the debate on Paul Cook (PC) in/out. Looking at the data it looks like PC had instant success with Wigan & Portsmouth with promotion in first season and win percentages of circa 60%. Not sure how this fits into his current narrative. The only time he won promotion in a second season was Chesterfield (League 2, 8 years ago), but he did have a win percentage of nearly 60% in the first season after taking over at end October. Again not sure how this then fits his current narrative. Where he had a win percentage similar to here his tenure was less than 12 months (Southport & Accrington). So with our CEO being keen on data driven approach I wonder if this is a factor? I agree that we have a great squad on paper for this league, Paul Cook is not the man to get what we need out of them this season or next. His success seems to be down to opposing managers taking a while to work out how to deal with his system. I think we can all agree that at this level in 2021, most opposing managers have worked it out. I don't believe he has the tactical nouse to change things. Long term TWTD voyeur, first time in years I have felt any inclination to post. Cook out. |
