Manager Cook Sacked
Sooner than I expected, but abysmal results record speaks for itself and not the new owners choice - thanks Evans you screwed us to the end!
Seemed a decent, honest guy, but got tired of him talking total boll_x before and after every game.
Onward and upward………….……but, Christ, do we need to get the next appointment right!!!
Ipswich Town 0-0 Barrow - Match Report
Let’s play our strongest side - so Edmundson and Celina not in the match 18, two youngsters on the bench and Jackson starts………….Doh!!!
Good news? We didn’t lose, defensively we seemed okay - but lbh against Barrow - and Bonne and Piggott sounded like they worked well in the second half as two up front.
Apart from that just painful……………enjoy the coach ride!!!
Ipswich Town 2-2 Arsenal U21s (3-4 on pens) - Match Report
So not much in it until the first goal and then we dominated and totally in control, only more so after Jackson’s second. KVY very good and Woolfy also. Never rated Jackson and surely with Norwood, he goes in Jan, but prepared to shoot and score and his second was a class finish.
So, what do we do again? Get lazy and casual, go to sleep and, yet again, invite them back in to the game - terrible, why can’t we see a game out/how dumb and amateurish can we be???
Okay so it doesn’t really matter, but how can we lose a game like that - hang your heads, again………………
3 wins in a week - having a giraffe!!!
Ipswich Town 2-1 Crewe Alexandra - Match Report
For once started really well and first 10 mins all over them, with Aluko and Donacien on the right particularly dominating. Could’ve should’ve been more, but gradually Crewe kept playing their football and came back in to it and had a couple of really good chances to equalise. So Ipswich dominating, but struggling to create another score, with Crewe threatening on the break, until Celina’s worldy in stoppage time - took the long ball down dead and struck up and beyond their keeper all in one movement. Amazing skill and vision and the best Town goal I’ve seen for a long time…………………..!!!
More of the same in the second half - Town dominating, but still giving Crewe chances and, lo and behold, they said thanks very much! Town should’ve been out of sight, but casual, dozey and lost their way……………..
Aluko and Donacien played well together, especially first half and first real sight of Clements who also had a good game - reminds me of Steve McCall. Celina more influential. Walton and Edmundson also solid/commanding, but I think we need another centre half of similar quality - Toto plays with his heart and good in the air, but any flow we have often stops as soon as it reaches him. Bonne also struggling to spark again.
Okay first half, poor second, albeit that we woke up a bit in the last quarter. Thankfully there points…………., just, but still underperforming - sloppy and sleepy and we tried hard to give Crewe something. Seriously need to wake up and step up if we are to achieve anything this season.
Ipswich Town 0-2 Rotherham United - Match Report
First half we had 60%+ possession, but Rotherham ran the game, always in control and looked far more dangerous than us as we struggled to create any meaningful opportunity to score. We huffed and puffed at times, but generally, including Morsy, looked at a loss as to how to get at their defence or create anything in the final third, with McB again living off scraps - once again just not there as an attacking force.
Second half more of the same, Morsy and Evans very quiet, neither full back did anything in the attacking sense and Chaplin and Fraser also pretty invisible.
We kept battling away to the end and a bit more animated in the last 20 mins, but no real cutting edge or any sense that we were going to make something happen and cause any real problems. Edwards was good after coming on and threatened, but really Rotherham just sat in their half and played the game out - our first attempt on target/their keeper made a save for the first time in 92nd minute…………….!!!
May be credit to Rotherham who were just a better team in most respects and comfortable for most of the match. Unlike Sunderland, we got what we deserved from the game. So given the quality in our squad, still underperforming and still lots of work to do.
Down to 14th and currently, sadly, we are just not a match for the top teams in this division.
Sort it out - COYB!!!
Sunderland 2-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Gutting - sounded like ITFC the better team, battled hard, but couldn’t score/final execution lacking. Then silly mistake and dodgy penalty…………………
Edmundson and Donacien rocks and Aluko had a good first half, but not enough of the rest turned up and delivered. Still think we should try starting with Celina out left alongside Chaplin as the no 10.
Life isn’t fair - very disappointing, but need to go again and put it right in a big match on Tues otherwise we seriously fall back.
Oldham Athletic 1-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Stuttered, spluttered and, again, never really fired at any stage, but goalkeeper gift and magic strike from El Mizouni wins it for us.
No one really starred, but we battled and got through.
Not losing is a good habit so forward again, but we’re seriously due a confidence boasting performance to convince that we are real contenders!
Ipswich Town 0-0 Oxford United - Match Report
Sounded like a tough game between two good sides, both battling hard/cancelling each other out. Ox playing for the draw, full of gamesmanship and we didn’t quite fire, but we didn’t lose and onwards and upwards again…………….
Get through the replay, beat Black cats and Rotherham and we’ll be looking good!
Ipswich Town 0-0 Colchester United (4-3 on Pens) - Match Report
We didn’t play awful, we didn’t play great. Should of shaded it in 90 mins, but couldn’t score and none of the second string really took their opportunity to shine or make a case, although Fraser had a good second half. Colchester decent within themselves, especially in the first half when they had a few chances, but surely beating them by two goals wasn’t too much to ask to ensure a home tie next round. So, yes, frustrating again, but we I guess we didn’t lose and move on…………….
After last two cup matches we really need to step up on Sat v Ox.
Wycombe Wanderers 1-4 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Bloody brilliant!!! COYB!!!
Wycombe started well, we didn’t! They pressed high, put in lots of crosses and we couldn’t get out of our half, which eventually resulted in the inevitable from a corner where we lost the first ball and the second. After that we looked so fragile, soft and under pressure - really poor, not competing and a second goal seemed only a matter of time.
Then something strange happened. Suddenly Wycombe stopped pressing and slowly we grew in to the game with Morsy becoming more influential, along with KVY going forward and Celina finding lots of space in the middle. Cue deserved equaliser then roles reversed fully and they were under pressure with us finishing the half in the ascendancy, deservedly level.
Second half started scrappy, but first good move was ours - Celina and Edwards on the left then Bonne brilliant turn and finish on the end of the cross. Then we had 20 mins purple patch including Burns bullet for the third and Wycombe really losing it. Last 20mins they came back at us - lots of free kicks and corners - and very physical with it, but for once, respect, the defence stood strong! Then Celina at the end put the icing on the cake.
Morsy so strong and influential, Celina and Edwards must start again, promising so much with more to come. Burns also good, as well as Edmundson, Burgess, KVY………
…………….but all brilliant! COYB!!!
Plymouth Argyle 2-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report
So we failed the first real test! Disappointing, Pilgrims good, but sounded like we had our chances to at least draw.
Having said that, even allowing for injuries/illness some presumably at short notice, with our squad the best we can do is Couls playing out of position on the right side with Woolfy???
Poor planning/team selection surely???
Need to bounce back on Tues or is it playoffs at best? COYB!!!
Ipswich Town 2-1 Fleetwood Town - Match Report
Wow, last gasp, but fantastic!
With other results, looked like we were going to miss out on a chance to gain ground again, but fought to the end and keeps the momentum going.
To be fair Fleetwood sounded decent - much better than their position suggests, but we win again and now need to show up for some top table confrontations.
Great use of the quality in the squad - I’d start with Burns in the right and Celina in the left next game.
Portsmouth 0-4 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Result was everything and may be we are finally on our way!!!
Strange first half, but Town probably shaded it and made the more chances - Ports only had one from memory. We kept threatening to dominate and on odd occasions our passing was really slick, but the overriding theme was a lack of any real quality from both sides. Bonne’s endeavour and their calamity keeper changed the game.
As was the case last season, not sure Nsiala is the answer (there’s always a mistake there) and Walton’s kicking was pretty woeful - also charged down twice in the first 15 mins!?! Kyle Edwards also struggled, although clearly a great player in there.
So Port not that good/there for the taking, but second goal crucial as usual………….but especially for us. We actually started the second half really well and Chaplin delivered with a good finish, then Aluko soon afterwards……………….
Edmundson MOM, but Donacien also very good again (new attacking full back) and Bonne leading the line as ever. Evans also had an influential game.
Portsmouth weren’t very good - Walton only had two saves to make in the whole match - and the first half was largely forgettable, but we took them apart after half-time and a great result.
Now onward and upward!
Cambridge United 2-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
Gave it away………again!?! Aluko and Edmundson good, but Mick Mills suggests the defence - strong on the right with Ed and Don, but weaker on the right with Burgess and Pennie. Also subs all attacking when may be we needed to stand strong and close out the game??? Also dodgy keeper performance from Hlad by the sounds of things???
Keep working, but time to be catching up, not missing chances like this…………..!
Former Owner Evans Linked With Move For Derby
God help them - no fan of Derby, but surely they’ve suffered enough already?!? Wouldn’t wish on anybody and Evans should be banned from ever being involved in football again…………..!!!
Cook: There's a Sloppiness That Comes Into the Team
Have to say that for once I agree with most of what PC says there. We have the potential to be much better. Things are improving and we clearly have some players, who could really rip it up and if they do it all at the same time then we will be a serious force to contend with, but currently still some way off that and a lot more work needed……………………
