McK: “I do think we can play better. In the first half, the level wasn't where we wanted it to be, there were too many early turnovers when we got into their half of the pitch. “We spoke about that at half-time and we improved in the second half, to be fair, and that gave us a new level of control and we certainly created more chances off the back of some good play.” |

Sounded like a scrappy first half that we just about shaded, with JJ's goal the standout. Not much else of note to report in a lack lustre first half as we seemed to struggle to get our passing game working and impose ourselves on a side that offered little above a bit of effort. Needed to up our game and take control after half-time and second goal came along at just the right time - settled us and took the wind out of the Shrews. So better second half and subs seemed to boost us as we increasingly controlled the game - Morsy and Evans ran the show and defence solid - with Shrews hardly laying a glove on us. So took a while to get going, but in the end a comfortable 0-3 win and even Jackson scored!?! We are going up, top of the league and COYBs!!! |
| News Comment | Burton Albion 0-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 21:49:28
Burton exactly as expected - one dimensional and direct in pouring rain, focusing on long balls and set pieces, but we stood strong and largely matched them in the first half. In spite of a few scary moments we continued to play out from the back - we just need to be cuter when to do so and when to get rid against teams like this - and play our football, which won out as we increasingly started to dominate after half-time. Harness great goal and class throughout - all the signs he will be a top signing. Aluko and Leigh also good and Walton so strong, with great distribution and one world class save to keep us ahead. We missed Burns and Chaplin and when the latter came on as sub, he injected some pace and was really lively. Sorry, still don't know what Jackson has to offer - so he's quick, but finishing and touch remains woeful! Dominated the closing stages and should've got a second and won more easily, restricting them to very few clear cut chances. Like Forest Green, last season we would've drawn or lost this match……………………but we have a better squad, more character and greater self belief. At last we look like we are on the right path, so onward and upward! Top of the League and COYBs!!! |
| News Comment | McKenna: Completely Different Type of Game at Burton at 16:01:51
Bottom line is that we need to stand up and be counted - like we did against FG - to ensure that, unlike last season, we win matches like these. So in the first instance stand strong and match whatever they throw at us and then impose our superior, passing football style to dominate and, hopefully, win comfortably. So far much more confidence and self- belief evident in the squad, so COYBs - we just have to give a good account of ourselves and win these sort of matches if we want to get promoted and I think we will…………………..COYBs!!! |
| News Comment | Davis: We've Made a Bit of a Statement at 16:30:04
What's wrong with a bit of early positivity, especially given the dismal starts of recent seasons that we have had to endure……………… ………….feet firmly in the ground and one game at a time, but let's believe and COYBs!!! |
| News Comment | Chaplin: That Has Set the Standard at 16:27:45
Really like the system that McK is using and players seem to be really buying in to now, with high press and all forwards working their socks off yesterday. As I said Chaplin sounded unplayable with his movement, energy and guile and Harness, Burns and Ladapo, who I think has a lot more to come, not far behind. Donacien, Morsy and Walton so strong, Evans also improved on last season performances, Leif showing signs of beginning to settle and solid across the back line! What's not to like - finally, early days 🤞, but lots of signs we might be in the right path………….…… COYBs!!! |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 3-0 MK Dons - Match Report at 17:04:15
We were great in the first half, totally dominated what we know is a decent Dons team from the get go and continued after half-time, with hardly a blemish of any sort. Chaplin sounded unplayable and Burns back on form, but difficult to think of a player who wasn't on it TBH - Ladapo worked and ran tirelessly, Leif seems to be settling in nicely and Donacien - two assists - and Morsy so strong…………..and we should've/could've had more, but of course we can't score!?! Also saw the game out comfortably with no dramas. Ian Westlake said this was “one of the best Ipswich performances he had seen in the last 5 years”! Top of the Table and COYBs………………….!!! |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-1 Colchester United - Match Report at 21:51:55
We dominated, we made one big mistake - Rekeem H - Hladky didn't have a save to make !?!……………..but then just couldn't score to get it back in-spite of best efforts, so no big deal overall I guess…………………. …………….but I am so bored/disappointed in saying that every season since I can't remember. 10 changes and we lose and more worryingly, again, despite dominating for long periods, with obviously better players, we fail to score…………….!!! Come on guys - sort it out ffs………….. COYBs!!! |
| News Comment | Town Close to Signing Veteran Defender Keogh at 18:51:20
This shows long-term planning and contingency for any injuries this season, assuming Ndaba now goes out on loan. Think he's seriously high potential for the future, but trust McK judgement on this, as with Baggot, although when is good enough, young enough??? Don, Edm, Woolfy, Cameron and Keogh should be sufficient, with the latter also passing on he's exp and knowledge to others, but really rate Baggott and Ndaba for the future, so let's give them the right opportunities to shine and develop - difficult, but when is the right time??? COYBs!!! |
| News Comment | Forest Green Rovers 1-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 17:19:55
Settled in to the game after the first quarter and largely dominated. Deservedly got the first goal and, unlike last season, stayed focused and scored the second just before half-time. Disappointing to concede and again invite pressure on ourselves for the latter stages, but defence generally sound and, again unlike last season, we stood strong and saw it out. 9 mins of injury time?!? Morsy a giant and sounded like a great goal - him or Walton MOTM. McK seems very settled with his squad depth and clear on his system/subs/rotation. So deserved winners, albeit against a spirited FG side, and we could've got a third to put the icing on the cake, but we are up and running and I think will only get better and better from here, so league 1 watch out and COYBs!!! |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-1 Bolton Wanderers - Match Report at 17:18:50
Town started slow, inviting them on, but Bolton a decent team. Sounded much better in the second half and we should've/could've won it at the end. John Jules sounded sharp when he came on and we scored from “a well worked corner kick”??? So reasonable/promising overall I think with more to come - as Carlos E said “a step forward” rather than anything else and something to build on…………………. COYBs!!! |
