Brizzle City Fans, what exactly is their beef with Ashton? (n/t)
at 09:00 2 Sep 2021

We should read that with caution. Watford fans also don't have great things to say about him. Plus, we struggled with a big squad keeping everyone fit and happy and we have done the same thing again.

I personally don't think we needed to over-haul the squad as drastically as we have. However, on paper this squad should steam-roll League One...to date this isn't happening and it needs to start from Bolton at home.

If this project doesn't work, financially we are screwed - this moneyball strategy financed by a ruthless pension fund will pull the plug and we die. This makes me nervous as football is too unpredictable.

Managers who would actually fit Evans' 5-point plan, are in our reach, have
at 09:16 9 Mar 2020

Which is fine until you realise the structure doesn't actually work. Our two most exciting prospects we now face losing for tribunal fees either this summer or next. Then Downes and even Woolfenden could go (the only 2 that have actually consistently been selected). We need a proper sporting director to make decisions within an agreed structure or we will never move on from this malaise, not a former middle school PE teacher.

From today's Daily Mail.....
at 08:44 16 Apr 2019

McCarthy only won 4 games with us in 2018 - the rot and decline was starting then. We only won 2 games since which is shocking and accelerated given we sold all our goals in the team.

If you look at Lambert we have drawn far too many games, but performances in a few of them have been positive. At least we are on the front foot and trying to play the game the right way. One step back and all that...

Starting 11 next season
at 13:24 15 Apr 2019

I would be happy with this:

Gerken

Emmanuel
Kenlock
Nsiala
Chambers

Bishop
Nolan
Skuse

Judge
Keane
Edwards

Squad:
Wright
Woolfenden
Lankester
Nydam
Downes
Jackson
Harrison
Rowe
El Mizouni

we should be clearing the decks of:

Huws
Adeyemi
Ward
Spence
Collins
Sears
Bart

Look to get in:

1 x RB
1 x LB
1 x CB
1 x GK

Expect down votes....but Chambers???
at 08:50 13 Mar 2019

It was telling that the last few minutes of panic was down to Skuse aimlessly heading it twice in three touches and Chambers aimlessly kicking it straight to the opposition.

Sooner we move on from them both we will be a better side next season.

Squad re-build
at 13:52 4 Mar 2019

Think we should look at building the team round Judge the captain, and Keane up top.

GK:s 1 x new goalkeeper; Harry Wright back-up.
RBs: Emmanuel and Cotter
LB: Kenlock; 1 x LB
CBs: Woolfenden, Nsiala, Smith, 1 x CB to be the new main man.
DCMs: Downes and Nydam
Creative CMs: Bishop and Dozzell
Wingers/Attack: Edwards; Rowe; Lankester; Judge; 1 x winger/striker
ST: Harrison; Jackson; Keane (if we can sign him)

Would like us to go for Eaves of Gillingham if we cannot get Keane. No idea on goalkeeper or left-back. Centre-back if we could go back in for Tilt - he maybe out of our price range but...

Getting rid of Bart, Gerken, Chambers, Knudsen, Collins, Spence, Sears, Ward, Huws, Adeyemi will free up a lot of wages.

Only area we would maybe want to get some experience in is DCM but I think Downes could do a job.

Team formation for Sunday?
at 16:25 5 Feb 2019

I'd like to see Quaner in the Sears position with Keane up top from the start.

With Judge floating in between them could make us more of a threat.

Based on the last home game I thought that would have caused Sheff Weds more problems than we did.

I know Skuse is divisive on here but I thought he looked a shadow of his former self. I feel Downes in the holding role and Chalobah slightly more advance with Bishop would give us a better balance and quicker passing and maybe a couple forward!

FWIW my view on Hurst
at 14:59 25 Sep 2018

And that is the common denominator of the Evans regime - no accountability to the manager. Bringing in managers who rip the template up and start again, f*** up, start again.

Its taken us all this time to get the academy producing since Keane essentially closed it down and I fear Hurst will do the same.

I wanted a team with Emmanuel, Kenlock, Woolfenden, Nydam, Dozzell, Downes, and Folami playing integral roles. We have one...

I agree with you but there are two big issues that concern me.

Firstly, Evans interview suggested a leadership group that would agree on strategy, players and player development. Surely this blueprint was agreed when interviewing the manager? And if such an issue why wasn't Klug made Sporting Director to implement the strategy and have more power in keeping the youth players in the squad and not replaced with Premier youth loans (Edun, Chalobah). The accountability here lies with Evans not setting clear structure.

This loses goodwill and we now have a situation of 6 loans with only 5 in the squad. How Donacien can go from MOTM to dropped is madness.

Secondly, how can Walters and Graham be given fitness passes but not Huws, Rowe, and Dozzell. Its crucial we get Huws and Dozzell rotating in that team. One or the other starting for 60 and coming on for 30 to get up to speed. Rowe is worth a look on the left now as well.

There have been small signs of playing high intensity, attacking football which will cause teams problems. But there have also been some scarily bad play which looks like we will never win a game. We need to find the team balance and quick!

Garner and Waghorn have been successful here so worth looking at them again especially if they are still in financial difficulties and we can pick up a bargain or two.

Full list of managerial candidates vote EADT

Gerrard and Lampard won't touch us anyway, we are too risky and could ruin their managerial reputation before it starts.

Steijn is a roll of the dice, a completely different move which is why its exciting people. He has got a team promoted on a small budget, played some decent football and made them difficult to beat in the top division. Potential to bring in some young, technically good Dutch players off the radar for much cheaper prices/wages integrated with a good crop of young players and a solid core. It could work.

So Mick is human and should be allowed to be rude and shout F*** Off to anyone he wants. But fans need to know their place and stay quiet and support?

Mick was rightly celebrated when he got us to the play-offs and he is rightly been criticised for the past two seasons of anti-football.

The personal attacks went way too far on both sides and has left everyone looking very silly.

The Numbskulls were told to draw a line under it. Now Mick has gone the Inners needs to reign it in and look forward and not back.

But Steijn got his team promoted and this year they are in the top division and have survived. You cannot win any league without playing half decent football.

A slightly better impression than Mick!

Agree with you on unknown and unproven but after 16 years in the same division, I would rather see (and I think a lot of fans feel the same) us fail with an approach like this versus going for the same old (again) and failing.

How George is not involved with th Club
at 15:13 4 Apr 2018

We know what the model has and is, what we are saying is it needs to change, its not worked. We need a strategy and structure that managers fit into and buy into not dictate and then when it goes wrong, leave. Then we don't have a strategy.

We have a great academy with some of the best prospects in years, yet they won't play the same way in the first team. That needs to change for a start. A long term sustainable plan is the only way forward on the budget we currently have.

To the other poster who asked what the Ipswich way is - for me: its bringing in youth through, setting up to play decent, attractive, attacking football and take it to the opposition. If we lose, we go down trying to win the game.
