Premier League Offering EFL Clubs Grant of Less Than £50m
at 11:30:43

The PL is killing the game.

Parish is wrong and knows it. He says no company would help out a competitor. Without a competition football would have no meaning. It would be wrong for the PL to become a closed shop with the bigger clubs having the same cannon fodder every year. Football is about hope.

Evans: We're Heading for a Perfect Storm in Football
at 19:43:16

I await the expressed wisdom of BlueArmy81 with regards to this. If not I will paraphrase what he will want to say:

“No ambition”
“He should sell up”
“The club is going nowhere except down”
“He should be spending money to get up or get out”
“Anyone who disagrees is a) not a true Town fan, b) stupid, c) satisfied with failure, d) has no ambition, e) has no idea how rich people should spend their money “

There - I’ve saved him a job.

BlueArmy81 - Looking at what is going on in the world and the effect Covid / Brexit are / will have on the economy for the next few years then I would take existence over dreaming that your fantasy comes true. Of course I want us to get promoted this year, and expect us to be very serious challengers with what we have, but wouldn't expect there to be suddenly loads of money about even then. When will you accept that being a provincial club we won't attract oil magnates and Russian oligarchs queuing up to buy us "at the right price"?

BlueArmy81. I would love to know who all these buyers are and what the “right price” is. Please consider also that football finances will, this year, have changed forever. Stop ranting and enjoy the fact we will probably still have a club. Many won’t.

So BlueArmy81, what is YOUR actual plan for this club to progress? I hope it overcomes reality.

Spend loads of money on players who then have to fit into a tight salary cap?

Pick a team based on who does well in a computer game?

Ignore the reality of injuries, loss of form etc and how they affect performance?

Please tell us. I, and I know many others, will be interested to know how deep you think beyond shouting "zero ambition." In telling us try to avoid insulting anyone.

Former Loanee Garbutt Joins Blackpool
at 16:16:45

It's not worth biting at the rubbish BlueArmy81 spouts. It always ends with "no ambition."

This season the system has changed somewhat. Ward is likely to provide more solidity than Garbutt did. I like the latter and he was one of our better performers last season but if the team functions properly this season we will score more goals than he contributed. Throw in the pay-cap situation and we clearly have less wriggle room than some of the "smaller" clubs.

If it is ambition we are talking about then we really should have enough in this squad to get us up. An experienced international, former premier League player seems a fair exchange for Garbutt in helping us achieve that.

Birmingham in Jackson Talks - Report

So the moaning about the club resurfaces because another club is linked with one of our players. There is nothing to suggest the club will sell so why go on about "lack of ambition" etc at this time?

Lambert: Flynn's Welfare is Important
at 14:05:25

There are so many experts on man-management on this site! Throw in the issue that elite (professional) sport is based on the mind being just right then I find it difficult to criticise PL for this. A player with his head out of sorts is likely to be that bit slower in thought - enough to put his team in danger.

Former Pompey Striker Hawkins in Talks With Town
at 12:08:15

The usual suspects on here moaning about lack of ambition, getting someone “better” than anyone we are linked with etc. We all know what mistakes the club have made over the past twelve years and feel that our place is in the top two divisions. We now have to adapt to L1 and build a team that can get us back there against the background of salary caps, COVID-19 etc. I can’t think of anyone’s name in the Wycombe team except Akinfenwa who just happens to be a big lump who brings others into the game. L1 isn’t about stars, it’s about the sum of a team’s parts.

Holland: Without Owner's Backing I'd Be Worried About Administration
at 13:20:44

So - we can stand up and fight a man who chooses to use some of his immense wealth to keep our club afloat and so bend him to our will to the extent he will give up and go. We can do so by getting “angry” on a fans forum, criticise anyone not quite as “angry”, make some banners, start an on-line petition and then........er not sure.

I wish I had realised that earlier. The scales have been removed from my eyes.

Anger clouds your judgement in a war so you would probably be a bit dangerous to be near.

As for joy - there have been games and results that I have really enjoyed over the past 13 years. I have also been gutted on many occasions but within an hour or so I have got over it and moved on. This constant rage about ME, the club, managers and players achieves nothing, unless of course you feel the appalling behaviour of some against MM was reasonable. The bottom line is we will still have a club. Be grateful for that at this time and perhaps then we might find we can climb out of the wreckage that is going to be L1 and 2.
