at 16:14:52

Anybody who complains about refereeing decisions this season should see the penalty given in this game against the BVI. One of the worst decisions ever!

Burns: Two Points a Game the Aim
at 10:45:56

I think it's still a possibility, but we've made it a lot harder for ourselves after the past two matches. 4 of our remaining games are against Rotherham, Wigan, Oxford & Plymouth (who could be 8 points clear of us if they win their games in hand) meaning 7 wins from the remainder and us finishing on 74 points, with points from the aforementioned being a bonus.

Regarding the formation. I was an advocate for this when Cook went on a blog. The defence is now a lot stronger but I still feel we are lacking down the left hand side. Thompson, doesn't seem natural going forward and it makes us unbalanced. Teams are wising up to the fact our main threat comes down the right so we need to resolve this problem sooner rather than later.

What the answer is? Not sure, Penney can whip a decent ball in but his defensive play is too weak. Maybe someone like Cam Humphries could fill that role from the U 23's?

Up top someone needs to start firing and soon. Not wanting to criticise McKenna because he has done sterling work since his arrival, but the constant chopping and changing of the strikers isn't helping in my opinion. Players need a run of games to fins their form and at the moment they're not getting it which I think could be why they are misfiring at the moment.

Lovely guy. Passionate about the club, just not of a standard to move forward with. Best of luck to him if he is moving on.

Fraser Again Linked With Swans But No Approach Made to Town
at 13:36:20

I struggle to see, if and when we have a full and available squad, where Fraser fits in to our system. He has been rather un-inspiring since he joined and the games I've seen play tends to slow and then break down through him. Shame for the lad but I think a move away for him would be best for all parties

Old fashioned body on the line defender, but without the technical ability required in football today it will only get you so far. Thank You Toto for your service, best of luck with the Cod Army

U23s Game at Cardiff Streamed Live
at 12:53:45

Old cliché of game of two halves. Cardiff looked sharper and high press caused us issues in the 1st half and we seemed to want to give them a goal. Much better in the 2nd half. Hughes looked busy coming in as a sub and two excellent finishes by Humphries and Clements. Tried to play some decent football, just need to get it out quicker from the back. Well Done lads! Only the 2nd defeat for Cardiff all season

Thoughts On the Squad So Far and the Best Formation
at 13:06:53

Thank you SpiritofJohn. Difficult to call. Admittedly Janoi has been superb this season. I just think Woolfy would fit well on the right side of a back 3. Certainly Janoi could fulfill that role as well.

Atay: An Unbelievable Game of Football
at 12:07:27

Great win, awesome performance. Great to see Cook and Roberts were at the game. Be interested to see how many of the 1st XI squad were at the game(if allowed) or bothered to watch the game. The could learn a lesson or two about pride and playing for the shirt and for your team mates.

Ipswich Town 2-1 Burton Albion - Highlights
at 01:42:33

Great 1st 10-15 minutes then we dropped off and got lazy. The Burton came from too much dithering around at the back. Where were the midfielders looking to recieve a pass from the centre backs? He (McGuinness) was forced to go long which put us under undue pressure. Dozzell was standing around doing nothing and should've come to the ball to take the pressure off. When Judge has dropped into those positions later in games recently he's looked a much better player. He wants the ball and trys to get things moving.
Really want to see Hawkins and Jackson get closer together. Having a target man to utilise means we must get the runners closer to him. Far too often Hawkins has no support close enough to him.
The chance at the end when Burton should've equalised was poor play from Woolfy. McGuinness got aucked in but then so did Woolfy and he ended up in no mans land which left Chambers on his own. The Burton winger was no danger when he picked the ball up on halfway, Woolfy should've retreated centrally as we had cover coming back to assist which would've possibly stopped a cross whilst Woolfy would've bolstered the central area and more than likely cut out the cross when it came.
Not vintage stuff. Certainly room for improvement. Mr Butcher would do well to give our young centre halves and few lessons.

Plymouth Argyle 1-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 17:46:40

Things learnt from this week.

1. We can play with two up top, it gives us more options.
2. When we are more direct and move the ball quickly we are more dangerous.
3. Judge can no longer play in a further forward role, his feet and brain aren't in sync quickly enough. Much better in a deeper role with more time on tha ball to do simple things.
4. The way our midfield sets up when playing the 4-3-3 system is more like a 5 at the back with a midfielder dropping in alongside the centre halves. If this is the case maybe that would be a better plan going forward with the full backs becoming wing backs with 3 midfielders and enabling to utilises tw forwards on the pitch together.
5. Nolan looks better when he is moving forward and driving towards the opposition.

Lambert: The Negativity Attached to the Club is Huge
at 03:48:39

https://fbref.com/en/squads/b74092de/Ipswich-Town-Stats#all_stats_shooting_10733

Have a look at this link. In 15 League matches this season, the four strikers,Hawkins, Norwood, Jackson & Drinan have had just 21 shots on goal between them. 21!!!!! 10 have been on target

In contrast Hull City who have played 2 games less than us, their 4 forwards have had 86 shots on goal this season. 39 on target.

This is our major problem. With the likes of Edwards and Bishop out who have had the majority of our overall shots this season we have no one being direct or able to create any chances. Strikers will score goals if you give them opportunities. Without the creativity we are going nowhere, Fast!
