Spot the parachute payment clubs.....not surprisingly the top 5 in that list. Makes you realise the miracles being worked at our club, when you see the spending power of the ex-EPL clubs. |

If only they could develop a system in which referees could check critical decisions by reviewing a video playback of the action. They could call it Assistant Refereeing Screen Equipment. Not sure how they'd abbreviate that though. |

The Leeds manager reckons he's had 6 apology letters from referees' body PGMOL this season. I reckon he's a dirty lying Farke. |

Can't speak for other Town fans (btw, neither can you), but I personally believe we would at least attempt to stay up, if promoted. |

As a budgie, why would he be concerned in any way about a competition in which they will never participate? |

I merely wanted to illustrate that even ME recognised that the academy was important to the club, but like most things important to the club, he badly mismanaged it. |

ME stated his aim was that half the 1st team should consist of academy graduates, and we just got nowhere near it. In recent seasons, who has played regular first team football as an academy graduate? Other than Woolf, Dozzell and Downes, is there anyone else? We used to be good at turning out some star players for the benefit of our 1st team, before selling them on. Even after SBR, the likes of Dalian Atkinson, Dozzell & Kiwomya, Wrighty, Dyer, Wickham. Yes, we get a compensational type fee, if we have young players poached from our academy, but that doesn't really help us progress as a club, does it? Coaches moving on to better jobs elsewhere benefits them and the others clubs, but how does it benefit us as a club? |

Agreed. Sad, when you consider how youth development was one of our main strengths back in the day. Unfortunately, that is one thing for which there is no quick fix. Lack of good management and investment in infrastructure, staffing and recruitment over so many years, together with the acceptance of Cat2 status, the encroachment of Cat1 clubs on our patch, and the poaching by "big clubs" of our youngsters before we even had a chance to blood them, have all contributed to a relatively poor return of youngsters graduating into the 1st team. I was really surprised by Mark Ashton's previous statements about not needing Cat1 status, but am glad that there appears to have been a re-assessment of that now. |

Can't have been easy at 2-0 and 3-0 down, but you made yourselves heard loud and clear on the telly today. Excellent! Shame we didn't get anything out of the game, but all is not lost.....we still have it in our own hands with 17 to go. |

Sorry to be pedantic, especially in respect of Budgie history, but they lost to Luton in the SF after beating Sheff U in the QF. Luton and Nodge in the SF of the FA Cup.......did half the top teams boycot the competition that season, like the League Cup in 1962? |

You could argue that it was simply a well-researched and well-executed move on the part of the table-toppers. Due to the way we play, we are often susceptible to the croos field pass to that side. Janoi would get criticised in the past, but our defence just gets pulled across because of Leif playing so high and getting caught upfield. You could also argue that they were all at fault. Leif and Taylor being pulled wide, Burgess coming out of the back line to do precisely nothing, Woolfenden seeing the space left by Burgess and shifting over, Clarke likewise, tracking the more obvious danger centrally, and Hladky for his positioning. On the point of the OP, I think Clarke is young, but has to just accept an element of blame in the moment and when they all look back at it afterwards, let Morsy know that he was far from the only one to blame. |

Good thinking, but I'd go for an alternative choice and orientation of colours. Royal blue for maximum points and yellow for no points. |

Thanks for that info. It sounds very static as a measure. Do you know whether, for example, the speed and angle with which the ball arrives for the scoring chance is taken into account? There are so many factors that make it no more than a rough indicator of chance conversion, but certainly not a reliable tool for predicting league positions. I agree with your last point....I cannot think of a game this season where we clearly came away with stolen points. As KMc says, "fine margins"......away at QPR for example. |

I must admit to not having spent much time trying to understand xG etc, but i have two observations. Firstly, there must be some subjectivity in assessing a goal chance because, put simply, someone has to decide how easy or difficult a goal scoring chance is and then it has to be compared to all past chances put into that category. Secondly, as far as I know the metric doesn't take into account the relative abilities of the players involved, e.g. the Marcus Harness goal v Brum would get the same xG rating whether he takes a swing at it or, ahem with the greatest of respect, Cole Skuse does. Likewise, is the keeper's ability taken into account? There are probably more reasons to discount this "analysis" either completely or greatly. |

Great article. As we are getting their attention, I wonder whether the BBC website could do a piece on the bias of reporting on East Anglian clubs by regional TV. |
