Our record signings
at 09:54 11 Jan 2023

What's really depressing about this list is how much money we spent on many players, mostly terrible/ineffective (Taylor, Martin, Huws, etc), and then subsequently them leaving for other clubs for free or a minimal fee.
Unsurprisingly, a large proportion of those from the Evans era.

Gives good perspective on the great signings and transfer business the Club have completed recently under Ashton et al, compared to the dross you see on the first couple of pages of that list!

Hypothetical question who would you pick?
at 09:19 16 Aug 2022

But despite having the X Factor rarely seen in L1, did he deliver and contribute with regular impact?

I agree, his talent has always been for all to see. However, his talent never effectively delivered when it mattered on a consistent basis.

Last season, there was a reason he wasn't consistently starting and I don think he would be in most peoples Top 5 players last season, and possibly Top 10 ...definitely not mine but all subjective though I appreciate.

For me, all the Celina Summer Speculation got nauseating. I am very happy with this squad being formed.

Regards to to Original OP, need to see more of Harness to truly decide but early days suggests its Harness for me.

Bolton- As tough a start as you can get ?
at 14:35 26 Jul 2022

Agree, a tough first game but one that we should win.

The Millwall second half performance against a tough opponent should give the Boys lots of confidence going into the game.

Yes, Bolton are probably one of the 7-8 more challenging opponents to start with but with our squad, Summer progress/additions, momentum building as well as being buoyed on by the a large, excitable crowd, 3 points, I believe will be ours....

'Captain Obvious' statement but a win is so important to build confidence and positivity for the games that follow. As others have stated numerous times already, a flying start to the season is vital and sets the tone for what follows...

Who do we need to move on then?
at 09:29 26 Jul 2022

I was thinking this too....

I agree with those you have mentioned.

Furthermore, all be it a fair bit more unlikely, was thinking is it feasible that we sell/loan some more surprising names like KVY, Burgess, Edwards or Nbada?

Probably not with KM's desire for squad depth and healthy competition but ultimately we are in League 1 and perhaps need to balance the books (incl wages) and KVY, Edwards and Burgess (if price is right) in particular, aren't guys that KM bought in and might get restless if action is limited for them....

Unlikely and personally unwanted but just a thought in terms of getting the squad down to the 'right' size and for recouping some of the spend on Davis and Harness (and possible Hurst/other striker).

'wall roll call
at 19:33 20 Jul 2022

Not purchased a ticket but will coming across from Twickenham ((SW trains seem fine) and buying on the door.

As already been mentioned, assuming with a week to go before Bolton, it will be a full, or near to full-strength starting XI so very interested to see the line up as well as the bench utilization....

El Miz, Harper... surplus to Requirements?
at 09:27 15 Jul 2022

Thanks Phil, very interesting. I do hope for his sake he gets a beneficial loan and plays regular football. Clearly, they still see something in him and want to develop him further by such a loan. However, even if his loan is successful and he impresses, would be hard to imagine he beats out other current players in the future when back in the squad.

El Miz, Harper... surplus to Requirements?
at 09:08 15 Jul 2022

When reading posts on potential line ups for the season, the above 2 are not heavily mentioned and often are forgotten from the potential bench-warmer spots....

Do they realistically have any relevant part to play this season where arguably, a more streamlined squad is needed for consistency, cohesion and Team Spirit (and of course for financial regs).

For me, El Miz would have made the first team by now if good enough for L1 and I can't see how he gets a look in bearing in mind Morsy, Evans, Ball are all definitely ahead of him and seemingly Humphries is more higly thought of and then there of course is Harper as well. He doesn't seem to have the mental and physical presence for me and often goes missing when I have seen him.

Harper is more of an unknown and as others have mentioned, showed real promise when he started last season. Clearly he has the physical attributes and pedigree but can this translate into consistent performances that get him ahead of the pre-mentioned 4 that could be ahead of him? it didn't seem like he set the World on Fire at Crewe.....

Ultimately, I would try and offload El Miz and if not, loan him out. Harper, could be useful to keep and see how he progresses and impresses KMC but it's a big 'could'...

On another note, with regards to squad size being important, with Leigh potentially a starter at LWB, could Edwards/Vincent- Young be ample back up and Penney let go too? For me, this seems feasible and would be my preference.

Always interested to hear other people's views?

Thoughts about trying Woolfenden in Centre Midfield in the Next 2 games?
at 19:53 31 Jan 2022

Perhaps pretty unrealistic but I have thought about this over the last few weeks and the more I think about it, the more I quite like the idea....

With Morsy suspended and with Evans injured, the last 2 games have showed we have been seriously lacking in centre midfield. For me, Bakinson showed glimpses against Wimbledon and was poor (and tired) against Wednesday. I have never been a fan of El Miz and feel he didn't do much on Saturday and didn't really get hold of the ball and drive forward with purpose. Carroll has underwhelmed and seems too lightweight and Harper seems down the pecking order....

Woolfy has recently had a resurgence and arguably been one of our best players under KMac and seems very comfortable on the ball, can drive forward with purpose and often picks a nice pass. For me, all good traits of a defensive centre midfielder if he were to be tried in this position. As well as this he can tackle and would have more of a physical presence due to his size, which in this league, counts.

Of course you could argue he is playing well at CB so why changes things? Well, if we were to try it, why not against two of the weakest teams in the league where we should be the clear favorites to win both games, despite this change. Furthermore, I for one, would be interested to see Edmundson move to the centre of the back 3 and see how Burgess gets on with the left Centre back role (being a lefty as opposed to Edmundson). This again would add height and physicality to the Team which I think is seriously lacking, often against the 'scrappy' teams and who knows, we might have more chance actually scoring from a corner!

I'm not saying I think this will happen or if it did, he will be anything like Warky in terms of his play and positional flexibility and I accept the ridicule that comes my way for the suggestion but personally, being so underwhelmed with our available CM options for the Gillingham game, I would quite like Woolfy in the midfield mix!

(Go easy, it's my first ever post!)
