Pet hates with grammar and 'eggcorns'/malapropisms
at 12:14 19 Jul 2025

Grammar:
'could/should/would of' instead of 'could/should/would have'
'His' instead of 'he is' or 'he's'

Eggcorns/malapropisms:
'Pacific' instead of 'specific'
'Heart rendering' instead of 'heart rending'

Your turn. 😊

Thank you to a stranger who helped me today.
at 22:25 2 Jul 2025

Just wanted to get a message out there today, as my car overheated and went into limp mode - thankfully - only 100 yards from a motorway services.

I'm not completely car illiterate, but when my engine overheating sensor kicked in, I knew I needed to stop asap.
.
I didn't even know where the engine coolant reservoir was in my engine,.but I asked a random guy if he knew where it was. He showed me, helped me top up the coolant,.check for air bubbles, tried to check for leaks, and checked the oil for evidence of head gasket damage. What an absolute gentleman. Didn't get his name but he is Scottish, was dressed all in Hi-Vis, and was in Bury St Edmunds this morning.

On the off chance you visit this forum, thank you for being so kind and generous. I will be forever grateful. .

Interesting Mary Earps documentary on BBC iPlayer.
at 21:45 2 Jul 2025

Makes me understand why she didn't want to be at the Euros as a reserve keeper.

The kind of player who performs at her best when she has the full backing of the manager, but struggles without that vote of confidence.

Lots of players are like that. But, ultimately, Wiegman can't use her at her best if Earps doesn't believe she is number one. Reminds me a bit of Paul Gascoigne. He totally needed to believe that the manager 100% believed in him.

Burnt myself with Sulphuric Acid today...
at 01:11 29 May 2025

Only a tiny drop of industrial drain cleaner, splashed on my t-shirt. I'd doused water on it within 10 seconds of feeling the burn, but it is now a 3rd degree burn requiring follow up hospital care.

It literally melted a 6 inch hole in my t-shirt, but thankfully just a 1p sized hole in my stomach skin, due to me being right next to a cold water tap.

Please, if you use industrial chemicals, don't underestimate their danger. It's shocking how corrosive that stuff is.

Commentator on Peacock said "Jaden Philogene

Is a signing with one eye on the Championship next season." Ouch. Forget back-handed compliments. Front-handed insult, that. 😬

Edit: Don't necessarily disagree, but imagine having that said about you on TV!
