Rowe: I Wasn’t in a Great Place the Way Things Were
In The Daily Telegraph today, Gareth Southgate, talking about his approach to players who have been left out of the squad, is quoted as saying, “ I always talk them through the rationale of the initial decision and then try to pick it up as we go through because I think they need feedback - it’s important for the players.”
That is the difference between a very good manager and a very bad one.

Essex75, I agree.
Too many fans seem to think that all it takes is an “investment” followed by fantasy football signings. Bury is a good example of the folly of that thinking.
Town Open Lambert Contract Talks Claim
According to The Daily Telegraph today, the leading candidates for the Sunderland job are:
Roy Keane (yes, really)
Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe)
Paul Cook (Wigan)
Phil Parkinson (ex Bolton)
Happily no mention of Paul Lambert.
Sunderland and Peterborough Linked With Wilson
As FPL Tractor says, this is probably agent driven speculation. However, he shouldn’t be on high wages, so giving him an 18 month deal would probably be sensible and a lot cheaper than having to buy another centre-back.
Lambert: Sunderland Boss Ross Needed More Time
I understand that last season he took Sunderland both to the play offs and the the final of the EFL trophy. This season Sunderland are in the play off places. What exactly does the Sunderland Board expect? Do they really think that by sacking the manager, appointing a new one (with all the cost involved) they will have better results?
Ipswich Town 4-0 Gillingham - Match Report
Very pleasing to see Huws playing a full 90 minutes and, by all accounts, dominating the midfield. He is far too good for League One.
The last couple of years must have been very frustrating for him.
Lambert: There Will Be Bumps Along the Way
How about Ipswich v Arsenal FA Cup Final 1978? They dominated the first five minutes and the last five minutes and we had everything in-between. If it hadn’t been for Pat Jennings and the woodwork, we’d have slaughtered them.
Jackson: Not Many People Would Have Thought We'd Be Unbeaten After 10 Games
Bettyblue remember two things:
1) the squad was substantially rebuilt during the summer with about 17 going out and 6 or so coming in
2) we still have a number of important players being nursed back from long-term injuries.
In the circumstances, our position and our playing style are both big achievements.
Keane Reignites Walters Spat
He probably revels in the hard man psychopath image, but it won’t get him another job in management.
Downes: Headbutt Won't Happen Again
He’s a young man learning his trade. He made a mistake. He has acknowledged that, is determined to learn from it and not repeat it.
Impressive. With luck, he could be a very good player.
Lambert: We Have to Make Changes at Luton
The article suggests that Roberts could play, but he isn’t in the squad.
I would start as follows
