Reid Could Reprise Wigan Role at Town
Peter Reid played at the top level and has extensive management/coaching experience. It seems that he gets on well with Paul Cook.
What is not to like about that?
It would be a matter for negotiation what his terms/job title/structure are to be, but that can be done with goodwill on all sides.
EFL Confirm Town Squad List
On paper a large and talented squad, but, as Brian Clough pointed out, football is played on grass.
I’m very glad that I don’t have to pay the wage bill!
Town Confirm Celina Loan Signing
A wonderful signing … if fit to play regularly.
It is one thing for him to be medically fit or fit enough to resume training shortly, but is he fit enough to play two professional football matches per week? I hope that the answer is yes.
Accrington Boss Confirms Burgess Fee Agreed
Blues1 I have downvoted you, not because I necessarily disagree with your opinions, but due to your language. “Total football ignorance … grow up … pathetic”. You may be a splendid fellow and very knowledgeable about football, but you do not improve your arguments by being aggressive and rude.
Accentuate the Positive, Eliminate the Negative and Don’t Mess with Mr Inbetween
Unfortunately, some posters on this site seem to believe that if they disagree with someone then that gives them the right to insult them. Fair enough to disagree, but let’s try to do so without being rude.
Incidentally, someone once said that “pessimist” is a word used by optimists to describe realists!
Downes: Style of Play Appealed Massively
He is no longer our player, so he has to come out with the usual public relations guff to keep his new supporters happy.
Let’s take the money, wish him all the best and move on (as Mariner1974 says we have young players coming through).
Joining Town Keane's Biggest Regret
One other thing. I recall seeing on TWTD an item from 10 years ago. It said that Keane was considering the appointment of an assistant manager.
Brendon Rogers was the name mentioned; look what he has achieved since!
Joining Town Keane's Biggest Regret
It is very easy to see why Evans appointed Keane.
He had been a very successful player and captain with Manchester United, he was a “winner” as a player. He had learnt from Sir Alex Ferguson. As a manager he took Sunderland to promotion. Evans’ reasoning must have been to appoint him and give him a load of money to spend; surely promotion guaranteed?
It didn’t work out like that for him. It didn’t work out like that for all the previously successful managers that Evans appointed. For me, a massive amount of the blame must lie with Evans.
Downes Set For Swans Medical
Good luck to the lad, Swansea should be a good fit for him.
On the subject of defenders, I understand that Gary Cahill has left Crystal Palace and is available on a free. I know that he is 35 years old, but he is very experienced and should be too good for our League.
Cotter on Trial at Bromley
Linkboy13, I agree. It is interesting to note that of the departures so far only two have gone upwards (to Championship sides) possibly with Downes to go as well, some have gone sideways (to other League 1 clubs), but most appear to have gone down to League 2 or lower. Some haven’t even found another club.
It just goes to show how weak Paul Lambert’s squad was.
Swansea Linked With Downes Move
We seem to be in the sad position that he doesn’t want to be here and the manager doesn’t want to play him. If he moves then we lose his salary and gain a fee, hopefully one that we can use to buy a player who wants to play for us.
Ipswich Town 0-3 Millwall - Match Report
Those looking for a “strong experienced” centre-back May care to note that Gary Cahil has just left Palace and would be available on a free. Yes, he is 35, but should be too good for League One.
Ashton: Category One a Possibility, But it Doesn't Excite Me
The “warehouse” remark is interesting.
One suspicion that I always had about the Evans regime is that youth contracts would be sprayed around all over the place, presumably on the off chance that one or two would make good.
