Agreed, however motorists going through red lights is a similar problem that is significantly more dangerous. It may be good to focus your attention there first.

Genuinely brilliant game, probably the first proper youth game I've watched for a few years and great to see such quality, composure and clear passing style of play.

Paul Cook is utterly shaming our players today.

Totally damning, and no doubt correct.

I'm not sure I have any sympathy with Hurst though, it's pretty much his players and recruitment that is the issue.

Players released
at 15:49 21 Apr 2021

Sounds about right from the various rumours. Who ultimately will be making these final decisions? I assume Cook will have the main input, but presumably final say will be with Ashton and the new owners? And you would hope other staff members such as Klug would be involved.

Seems strange that Lankester would be released when his contract runs until 2022?

What would it cost to build a new stand
at 17:40 20 Apr 2021

Refurbishing a stadium (or building a new stadium) isn't just about extending capacity though, it is about providing facilities for the football club to operate better; be it providing better sales facilities for Planet Blue, better fan experience during matches or more retail options to make money from e.g. restaurant and bars.

And it's fair to say the Cobbold desperately needs improving on all of the above after 20-30 years of neglect.

Is he even fit and fully training at the moment? I can't remember seeing him in any of the recent training videos or photos.

There were a few small glimpses last year that he was getting back to something near the quality we know he has/ had. But I suppose the fear is his injuries have robbed him of the type of game he excels at; powerful box-to-box midfielder. He may just need a fresh start, in a team that will enable him to play a full season of games to really get some proper match fitness going.

Must be an injury for Judge? He has probably been the most consistent performer in 2021.

John Terry as manager anyone?

Has everyone forgotten he is a massive racist? He shouldn't be allowed to be working in football or have any public platform.

I may be out of line here, or missing something, and this is a tragic story
at 11:05 22 Dec 2020

I'm not sure you've properly read the article.

Firstly, he wasn't part of a gang, this has been confirmed by the police.

Secondly, after being expelled from school, his parents clearly did their best to find better educational provision for him, even providing home tutoring after he was first attacked and often not allowing him to go out and socialise.

The fact that they won an appeal against his expulsion, yet the school refused to allow his return or work with the parents to find a proper solution, is a damming indictment of the local educational authority who let the family down.

This is not rural Suffolk, it's a diverse and complex borough of London (that I live and work in) that as young person of colour, has certain risks and challenges far greater than most parents face around the country.

Anyone else slighty concerned by our national debt
at 12:29 26 Nov 2020

What is the problem with national debt? Especially at the moment with virtually 0% interest rates. No one ever says taking a mortgage out is risky, it is the responsible way of buying a house allowing you to have more money to spend on day-to-day things.

I'm not sure how Rishi Sunak is managing to get any credit at all. I suppose he speaks clearly and wears a nice suit, but I am yet to see any forward thinking economics from him other than subsiding middle class people to eat at Nando's and excluding 2-3 million self employed people from support on the grounds of avoiding fraud.

Anyone else slighty concerned by our national debt
at 10:38 26 Nov 2020

I am definitely worried as this government is showing all the signs of wanting to pursue aggressive austerity once again, despite it not reducing the debt and shrinking the economy over the last 10 years.

There is a strange obsession with national debt within the Conservative party and much of the UK, like it works as if the country is a regular household. Up to 40% of the UK national debt is owned by the government and borrowing interest rates are at an all time low. If there was huge inflation this could become more of an issue, but is there any chance of this in the short term, without real pay rises or a mass of new jobs magically appearing? Not to mention the general push towards negative rates that have been promoted from all the European banks since well before the pandemic was even a thing.

But as you say, Brexit will be bringing billions and billions of additional expense for the UK, and will contract the economy even further. So the thought of a conservative government tightening the purse strings in a futile desire to reduce the debt they owe to themselves could leave us in a very bleak position.

Paul Hurst looked like he knew what he was doing in the National League.

Have you ever driven in London?? As someone who drove in London for a living for 10 years, before Coronavirus was ever a thing and public transport was running normally, it would take over an hour to get from e.g. Hackney to Lewisham at rush hour.

Sadiq Khan is doing exactly the right thing and encouraging people into walking and more importantly cycling. It takes me 30 minutes to cycle from Hackney to Lewisham. And if it was safe to do so I'm sure many more would.
