The Entertainment is Back, and So Am I
at 09:57:13

I'd like to apologise in advance for when the Bristol City game is a 0-0 draw. It's all my fault.

Keeping It in Perspective
at 23:06:20

Thanks for the comments. When I set out to write this blog, I just wanted to stop thinking about Ipswich's problems for a while and look a bit deeper into what other clubs are going through. It's a useful process to better understand our own predicament.

What this blog does not intend to do is argue that Mick McCarthy and the rest of the club should be completely absolved of responsibility. My view, as I've said in a previous blog, is that we won't make progress until McCarthy is gone. That said, I still really admire the fact that Ipswich Town is a club that treats all its staff with respect and doesn't rush to fire anyone after a couple of losses. Nor do we have an owner who treats the club like a personal play thing, constantly dragging our name through the mud. So as much as I would question their competency at present, one thing I wouldn't do is accuse McCarthy nor Evans of having contempt or lack of respect for the fans.

Keeping It in Perspective

I agree that Ipswich are probably smaller in stature than most if not all the clubs I've compared us with, but I often point out to people that the Tractor Boys represent more than just one town. This football club is basically a representative team for the whole of Suffolk - which boasts a population of 700,000 and is therefore bigger than most cities in this country. Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday actually have to compete for fan support with their city rivals Notts County and Sheffield United. We have no such constraint.

The 'Exciting and Unpredictable' Championship!
at 13:23:43

Cheers Tim. My blog was written in the heat of the moment, before I'd had a chance to cool off following last week's disgrace. If I wrote about the same subject now, I'd write a more measured and considered blog, but it wouldn't have been as entertaining and wouldn't have garnered such a strong reaction. Football is all about emotion, so let's not avoid it.

Birmingham 3-0 Town - Match Report
at 17:23:14

Now we all seem to be in agreement - the Portsmouth debacle has damaged us and now we're paying the price. Oar has walked out. Confidence shattered. What seemed like a promising promotion push two weeks ago has been turned into a shambles. The lesson learned? ALWAYS play to win.

Mick's Contempt for the FA Cup is an Insult to Fans
at 13:48:25

Bluestreak - Maybe, but the FA Cup wouldn't be a factor in my feelings towards Mick. To me there's a difference between resting a couple of key players, which is clearly sensible, and resting your entire first XI, which is throwing a match because you don't care.

Mick's Contempt for the FA Cup is an Insult to Fans

Did any of the people who say it wasn't an "insult to fans" go to the game last night? Just wondering.

bluelou - You ask if I'd rather Town were in League 1/2 having won the FA Cup. The answer is yes. League position is temporary. A trophy is another star on the badge, a place in the history books, and memories that last forever. It's the difference between being an Ipswich Town fan and being an Ipswich Town bookkeeper. Which one are you?

Mick's Contempt for the FA Cup is an Insult to Fans

ihatenorwich - If we don't get promoted there will be plenty on here calling for Mick to be sacked. I'm just saying it now because I feel betrayed as a fan about last night. Football should be about playing to win, not throwing matches. Don't get me wrong, I think Mick's done wonders here, but there comes a time when you need something more than play-off defeats and FA Cup embarrassments.

Mick's Contempt for the FA Cup is an Insult to Fans
at 11:39:50

Bluelou - would he? Presumably, if Town were fighting relegation from Premier League, Mick would approach the FA Cup with same attitude. My argument is - does it even help? Does an FA Cup run really harm league form? I doubt it. Regardless, there's a difference between resting a few players, and changing your entire first XI.

Ten Games, Ten Honest Questions
at 14:02:29

I am being cynical of course, I think every team needs a player like Tabb. Prepared to muck in and fight for the ball and scrap. But he shouldn't be a first-choice midfielder for a team fighting promotion, IMO. And he shouldn't be used as a winger in a 4-4-2, either. My criticism is with Mick on this one, not Jay. No one can fault the commitment he's shown, and he is certainly capable of putting a great performance in every now and then.

The Media Doesn't Like Us, But Should We Care?
at 18:25:32

Well yes I agree with all these comments, my line at the end of the blog is exactly that, we shouldn't care what the media says! I thought it would be interesting to analyse why it might be the case that we are getting less coverage, but quite frankly, I'm sure most fans don't give a hoot and quite right they are too. Nevertheless, it is frustrating when Mick doesn't get the praise he deserves.

Williams Wants to Stay and Play
at 14:37:51

Pulis wants him to stay at Town and get first team action. That's according to the deputy sports editor at the South London Press, who sits across the room from me and spoke to Pulis recently about Jonny. Apparently he doesn't think Jonny is a player suited to the scrap for Premier League survival, at least not right now. So there you go.
