Why Norfolk Island is being tariffed by Trump...the answer is Diss!
at 08:45 4 Apr 2025

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/apr/04/revealed-how-trump-tariff

Because some goods from a business park in Diss have the wrong address on the government system and show up as Diss, Norfolk Island.

"Other bills of lading that appear to have erroneously listed Norfolk Island as the country of origin include several from an aquarium and fountain company, OASE, which sent shipments from Norfolk in the UK to the US, and steel equipment sent from Novum Structures in Norfolk, UK, to the US.

Novum Structure’s address is listed on one bill of lading as 14 Hopper Way, Diss Business Park, Diss, Norfolk Island, instead of Norfolk in the UK, which is its EU headquarters, according to Novum’s website."

WHOA. On March 15, a Cornell PhD student with UK and Gambian citizenship, here on a student visa, filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn Trump's EO aimed at foreign students accused of "antisemitism. Last night, the DOJ emailed asking him to come to ICE to be detained and put into removal proceedings.

No killer instinct
at 17:16 1 Feb 2025

Gutting result and I'm sure there will be plenty of dissection of the defensive failings, but it really was appalling that we didn't score more.

They were there for the taking and we got in good positions but all the number 10s were guilty of never releasing the ball at the right time. Then Broadhead should have buried at least one of his chances.

We're not in a worse position yet, but we've squandered our best chance to make up points.

Sorry to Dig up the Davis Going Forward Discussion again....
at 12:30 6 Jan 2025

But I'm watching the highlights on MOTD2 and I'm still of the mind that it's poor play from the backline not to react, not over commitment from Davis. Although the pundits do disagree.

You can watch from 42:06 which is when we hit the post. At this point Davis is our furthest forward. However we've only got 4 men committed in their final third while Fulham have 8 (9 including GK).

42:10 Davis is making a challenge on the ball so can't retreat and still furthest forward. Still same numbers in the final third. So at this point we've got 6 players defending against 2 Fulham. Nowhere near over committed.

42:20 Fulham have gained possession and have put it out wide to their left back. Every town player is behind the ball and Fulham only have 4 in front of the ball. However every town player (bar the obvious one) is playing perfectly in shape as if Davis is there. 3 CBs in line, but only against one attacker; Burns in position, but marking no one; Morsy and Philips looking to keep close to the Fulham AMs in the middle. Then the Davis hole because Davis is still 15-20 yards behind.

This is the problem. The defensive line doesn't adjust to the lack of Davis. We didn't overcommit numbers and they've not countered in numbers. If the defence shifts leftwards, you make that cross field ball far more challenging and potentially cut out the play. Instead we've overcommitted defensively to our right and Fulham have pushed the space that wasn't closed.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a really sloppy tackle from Davis in the end and perhaps he could have put on the afterburners a fraction earlier to try and make up the space, but I'd be really disappointed in the backline and Phillips (as the DM on that side) for not responding to the threat if I was McKenna.

Gutting
at 15:58 5 Jan 2025

Clarke bends that inside the post and we toast a great victory. As it is we make silly mistakes and get burned.

Davis has the excuse of being at least close to the ball and having just ran the entire length of the pitch. Morsy is just stupidity. It's the sort of thing he does in midfield, but you can't do it there.

Still a point away from home is never a bad result.

Syrian Rebels taking control of Hama
at 12:30 5 Dec 2024

Having already taken the 2nd Largest city, they've now advancing into the 4th as well, with government forces apparently retreating. Only 130 miles from Damascus and only one other major city in between (Homs). You'd be a fool to write Assad off, but it's looking very bad for him.

Syrian rebels striking back
at 13:32 29 Nov 2024

Not seen it massively discussed, but Syrian rebels have made a large scale attack in the last few days. Perfect timing with every country around Syria focused on Gaza/Lebanon/Iran.

Reports coming out that they've now entered Aleppo, Syria's 2nd largest city.

Syria has long received extensive assistance from Iran and Russia(both official and through Wagner) in terms of both support and direct military aid. With both distracted by other struggles, it looks like the rebels are trying their luck when both of Syria's guardians are stretched. Can't imagine Putin taking any assets of the Ukrainian frontline to prop up Syria, but Iran probably will be more determined.

Should be noted the groups leading the attacks appear to be quite nasty Islamist factions as opposed to anything approaching moderate or democratic. They are designated a terrorist organisation by most Western countries, but are heavily supported by Turkey.

A sign of how much things have changed for Town
at 17:33 23 Nov 2024

3 years ago tomorrow, we were 7 places and 8 points of the play-offs after losing 2-0 at home to Rotherham. A team we were even further behind, 13 points despite playing an extra game.

Tomorrow we'll be playing Man United and we'll be 7 places and only 7 points off them before kick-off. McKenna has got us closer to Man Utd than Cook got us from the League 1 play-offs. Whatever happens tomorrow (although I fancy us getting a result), it sometimes feels like a dream.

As a fun aside, We're also the same distance to Man Utd as Norwich are from the play-offs. Nice marker of relative success of our clubs now!
