Ipswich Town 0-3 Hull City - Match Report
at 21:56:15

All the ‘Lambert Outers'... I agree he isn't that great, but I am not sure who could do any better with these bang average League 1 players we have. We haven't got one player that would get into a Championship side apart from Downes maybe (and he's injured!).
Marcus Evans is entirely to blame for this clubs demise. Since he took over, literally nothing positive has happened at the club. He will be the man that takes Ipswich Town Football Club to its grave - and by that I mean League 2 or Non League.
Everyone has got to accept that we are a mediocre League One club at best... the players, the management, the owner and financially. It's tragic, but true.
At any normal club (West Ham or Charlton for example) there would be protests, boycotts and demonstrations to get Evans out. But not sleepy old Ipswich. I don't know how Evans sleeps at night.

Lambert: Use My Sunderland Quotes
at 22:47:45

Look, we don't play great, we don't look great. But Lambert has got this bunch of League 1 and League 2 players in second place in the table. How some of them are pros I'll never know. That is a massive achievement for all concerned. I don't see how anyone expects us to be higher than that?? We are a very normal, very average League 1 team unfortunately. Probably the 7th or 8th best team in the league. You have to forget the past. The club has not been the same since Sheepshanks left, and never will be while Evans is at the helm. I honestly don't know why he owns a football club. He has absolutely no ambitions for the club regardless of the manager. Lambert should be knighted if he gets this lot in the top six. Of course I want the best for them.... but imagine if we got promoted... oh my gawd !!!

Raggett Admits Winner Shouldn't Have Counted
at 22:37:02

Fair play to Raggett, he's only doing what's natural.
To be really honest Pompey deserved the win. We played a reserve team and I didn't expect 2-2, let alone a win. I don't really give a monkeys about the cup either.
However, if we had professional officials the game could have been so very different with the sending off (defo in the prem and with VAR) and the goal!!! My 9 year old daughter who knows f*all about football said ‘that's not fair, that man stole that goal from the other man' so even a 9 year old could see he touched it!!
The refs need to be held accountable. If players and managers have to do post match interviews, then they should be compulsory for refs as well. They need to explain why they made the big decisions as they did, and if in hindsight they realise they've had a mare (they are human and we all make mistakes) then just come out and say so and apologise!!! Where are the FA, EFL and press on all of this?

Evans: Town Knew They Had a Battering, the Best Side Lost
at 12:38:49

Hahaha - he is trying to wind Lambert up. There is no way he genuinely believes what he is saying. His side had 30% possession the WHOLE game and battered us?? In the first half Gillingham were the worst side at Portman Road this season by all accounts. Ipswich should have been 2 or 3 up in the first half. Second half the Gills were a bit better, but never looked better than Ipswich at any point. Anyway, we desperately need an out and out goalscorer!! We cannot rely on midfielders to score all our goals.

No chance against Coventry or Portsmouth at home. So seven wins at best. Even that will be a push.

Downes: We Should Be Coming to These Places and Winning
at 11:50:14

Flynn son, you need to get out of here in the Summer. Don't let our shower of sh1t stand in the way and blight your promising career. Man of the Match literally in every single game in my eyes.

Downes: We Should Be Coming to These Places and Winning
at 11:45:41

I don't know why anyone on these forums is surprised by where we are in the League. As I've said before 5/6/7th would be an unbelievable achievement for this group of League 1/League 2 players (aside from Downes and Garbutt). The teams above us are better than us, create more than us, score more than us, let in less than us, have bigger budgets than us (bar Wycombe probably), so I am absolutely not surprised by where we are. Sam Szmodics turned down Ipswich Town to join Peterborough United and ran us ragged last week - sadly that's just simply where we are as a club.
If we get a 5th or 6th finish everyone associated with Ipswich Town Football Club should be ecstatic at what they have achieved.

Huws, Bishop and Earl Set to Miss Posh Clash
at 13:19:26

There's a shock, Bishop is injured. Feel sorry for him, but you do wonder if his career is ever going to start. Still, no-one is going to buy him, so I guess we have to stick with it.

Stand Pillars to Pay Tribute to Fans' Favourites

@d77sgw I agree that Beattie would be one of the first names on the list - but he has an entire bar/lounge dedicated to him already (and deservedly so!).

Maybe bear in mind those who have won 'Player of the Year', those who were good servants to the club and those that have kept a close affiliation... My 12 would be:
Burley, Mills, Muhren, Wark, Butcher, Putney, Brazil, Mariner, Milton, Holland, Magilton & Stockwell.

Jackson: We Weren't at the Races
at 09:17:34

The fact is that we are the 5th or 6th best team in this division and I don't know why anyone would think we are better than that. Rotherham, Peterboro, Sunderland, Portsmouth and possibly Coventry are all better than us. So that leaves us in the play-offs.
'We weren't at the races' is not an excuse, what more firing up do you need to know that you will go four points clear at the top if you win?? Our physicality and work rate is miles behind the likes of Rotherham and Portsmouth and our goal scoring numbers aren't good enough - we are an easy touch.
Having said that, we are a unquestionably a League One team with League One players. IMO we only have 2 or 3 that are good enough to play in the Championship (Downes, Wolfenden and Garbutt - and Garbutt isn't even ours!). So 4th, 5th or 6th in the play-offs will be a superb achievement for this group of players.

Blades Linked With £3m Woolfenden Move
at 10:13:43

Of course we don't want to lose Wolfenden or Downes. They are our 'own' two best players by a mile. However, if they price is right, then we have to sell and we wouldn't want to stand in the way of their careers. But ME please stop being an easy touch with the transfer fees, you need to put a £10m tag on each of their heads right now.
The sad thing is that we are selling our best players to Sheffield Utd, I have no problem with them as a club and in fact admire their achievements, but it shows how far we have fallen : (

Portman Road to Be Given Makeover
at 10:07:54

Well done PL.
There's no doubt this will increase the feel good factor around the place and stop us being a laughing stock among similar sized clubs. I hope ME is going to bring this club kicking and screaming into the 2020's!!! (even the 1990's will do to be honest!)
ME please visit a few other grounds to see what we need and how far behind everyone else we are...

*Big Screen or two (like every other ground has) with potential advertising income
*Digital advertising around pitch (like every other ground has) with potential advertising income
*New Turnstile blocks (these are literally from the 70's/80s)
*New/modern IPSWICH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB lettering on top of Cobbold Stand
*New/modern IPSWICH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB lettering on exterior of Britannia Stand
*Render over and paint that awful pebble dash in Cobbold Stand (pitch side)
*Lick of paint and jet wash everywhere
*Clean the roofs of Alf Ramsey and Bobby Robson
*New ticket office (rather than a porta-cabin - I've heard away fans literally laughing at this!)
*Renovated Players entrance/gates (rather than an even smaller porta-cabin)
*Permanent fencing around the 'practice pitch' area rather than the temporary refurbishment boarding that people use when re-fitting a shop!
*More things going on around the ground on match days.. Ipswich TV fans interviews, Local indie/rock bands playing music, or just music playing from speakers on the outside of the stands pre-kick off.... anything to create an atmosphere. If you do this, people will come early and spend more money.
*Finally, get rid of that 'Singing the Blues' song at kick off. Bloody awful and embarrassing. Might as well have the Macarena!! It doesn't have the same affect as 'London's Calling', 'I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles' or 'You'll never walk alone'.... Choose something that gets the crowd up for it!

Skuse: Frustrated But Not Downcast
at 12:25:59

Well beaten yesterday, although Ipswich should have had enough strength in depth to beat Accrington Stanley even with 4 usual starters absents.
Why PL didn't play 4-4-2 I don't know. We had Keane sitting on the bench? Jackson playing off of Keane could have worked wonders. Instead Jackson is chasing shadows up top on his own, with no help.
It is games like these however where a few players show their true colours/go missing... Dozzell, Edwards just not good enough and although I am a fan of Judge's ability, he was also poor yesterday. Nsiala - just a nightmare of a game all round. Again, could have been avoided with a 4-4-2 formation.
Lastly, can someone please tell me what Emyr Hughes has got to do to get into the team??? Arguably one of the best players in our entire squad and he doesn't even get to make an appearance in stripped down team!!????? I had him down as a nailed on starter yesterday. I can only assume that both Keane and Huws are not 100% fit???
Anyway, Stanley thoroughly deserved the victory, better than us and sharper than us all over the park.
Roll on Wednesday when hopefully Norwood, Vincent-Young, Downes and Wilson are all back.
Full faith in PL to return us to winning ways. We need 6 points from the next two games.
Come on you Blues!

Lambert: We Were Relentless in the Second Half
at 09:59:42

Why do they always do it to us!!??
Second half was much, much better than the first. We are not good enough to play one up front. We don't keep the ball well enough and our supporting midfielders are not quick enough to get around Norwood. When we changed to 442, it was a million times better and Wimbledon couldn't handle it.
I thought Wolfenden, Downes and Norwood were superb all night. In fact Downes was MOM for me.
However the subs had a massive impact. Great to see someone running at defences the way Georgiou did, plus he gave Kenlock a massive boost of confidence in the second half as well - he was a different player.
I am sure Donacien is a lovely guy and I don't doubt his determination, but how he has ever made it as a pro footballer I don't know.
Jury still out on Holy as well. Definitely needs to improve his kicking. Some of those balls were coming down with snow on, and it was food and drink for the giants at the back for Wimbledon to head away.
PL please keep the 442 formation going forward, even if you rotate personnel, we must play with 2 up front in order to score goals. We are very unlikely to get overrun in midfield with the quality we have in the ranks for this level of football.
Great turn out from the fans - nearly 19,000, Tuesday night at home to Wimbledon!
Well done lads, great character and determination to come back from 1 down.

O'Neill: We've Learnt From This Season
at 16:47:23

O'Neill seems to be talking sense and has a genuine passion. I hope he carries it through. Marcus Evans seems to be sleepwalking if you ask me. The club has been stuck in a rut for years and MM worked miracles to get us a mid-table finish year after year. Look at the clubs in the Championship who we are now light years away from due to being so blinkered. The whole club is treading water at best... there is clearly something wrong with our training facilities given the amount of serious injuries we have incurred, but aside from that the club needs dragging into the 21st century generally, rather than being the same old sleepy Ipswich Town. We must be one of the only 30,000+ stadiums without digital advertising boards, we must be one of the only 30,000+ stadiums without large screens at each end of the pitch, we must be one of the only 30,000+ stadiums to still have 1970's dugouts, we must be one of the only 30,000+ stadiums to still be using what looks like a temporary ticket office, and don't even get me started on the 'Ipswich Town Football Club' sign on the top of the Cobbold Stand!!! That may as well be in an Old English font written by Charles Dickens!! Lets inject some modernness and enthusiasm into the whole place. I hope O'Neill recognizes all of these faults and failures and brings some urgency and awareness to the club. I like O'Neill and I think Lambert will do a decent job, but Marcus Evans is living in an time capsule. Wake up guys - on AND off the pitch!!!
