 | News Comment | McKenna: Cajuste and Phillips Not Yet Ruled Out of Manchester United Trip at 16:16:08
Stick with McKenna, even if we get relegated, if he wishes to stay. He will have learned from this season and I'm sure there are many things he'd do differently. But we should be in good shape to go up again in the next couple of years and given the opportunity he can put those things right second time around. We got promoted too quickly to adjust to the demands of the Premiership. I feel we might have done as well to stick with the core team that got us up, who at least had the mmentum; or to have built an entirely new team. But in the event, we ended up somewhere between the two. |
 | News Comment | Delap: I'm Just Focused on Ipswich at 15:04:08
It's not down to him - or Chelsea. We are not a selling club. From the Ipswich point of view, however much we got for him, less what we'd have to pay Man City, it wouldn't match what it would cost to be relegated. Equally, if he wanted to leave and we didn't allow it, and he got huffy as a result, that would cost him long-term (not that it's likely). So I cannot see any circumstances whereby he will leave before the summer at least. |
 | News Comment | Maresca: Second Goal Killed the Game a Little Bit at 11:46:37
I just love the assumption that all he has to do is wave his hands and Delap would jump ship! OK if we go down he will, but if we stay up, we are no longer the selling club that we once were. Chelsea might be though. |
 | News Comment | Cunha Banned For Two Games and Fined For Town Melee at 11:41:08
If this had happened in a semi-pro game, the ban would have been far longer. Yet in the PL where players are supposed to set an example, only two games. Yet in the same breath, the FA complains about poor discipline in the non-league arena. Beyond pathetic. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Delap Carded as Referee Said Rule Means Players From Both Teams Must Be Booked at 16:23:26
A refereeing decision devoid of common sense and integrity. Can anyone imagine a rugby referee yellow-carding one from both sides because that's what the rules state (even if true)? He should have acted according to his instinct at the time, and if queried by the FA afterwards, argued his case - and for such an inappropriate rule to be amended. I seriously doubt it would have been questioned though. As @wischip said, he should have carded the security officer for being elbowed in the neck and his glasses damaged, if for thing else, than to highlight the absurdity of the situation. |
 | News Comment | Wolves Forward Cunha Charged By FA at 16:02:32
I think it comes under this: The Football Association (FA) deals with assault on a match official by a player through a disciplinary process that includes the following steps: Reporting The referee completes a misconduct report form and submits it to the appropriate association. Regulatory Commission The FA establishes a Regulatory Commission to examine the claim. The commission considers the referee's report, reports from other match officials, and any other relevant evidence. Written decision The commission sends a written statement to the player and the Chief Regulatory Officer. The statement includes the charges, whether they were admitted or denied, the decision on whether misconduct was proven, and any penalty or order. Sanction The player is sanctioned for the assault. For example, a player found guilty of assault or attempted assault may be suspended from football for 5–10 years. If the assault caused injury, the suspension is at least 10 years, plus the player must attend an education course. The FA also deals with other offenses against match officials, including: Physical contact: A suspension of 112 days–2 years, plus a fine and an education course Threatening behavior: A suspension of 56 days–182 days Abusive language or behavior: A breach of FA Rule E3.1 The police are generally not involved in minor criminal offenses on the field of play. They consider these incidents to be more appropriately dealt with by the FA. |

It's a Level 4 offence, so the ban will be substantial. One wonders if the yellow card on Delap should be rescinded under the circumstances. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Unacceptable For a Referee to Put Himself at the Centre of the Match Like That at 07:56:38
The equivalents of VAR in rugby union, rugby league, american football and cricket have been refined to a much higher standard than we have to endure in football. Why can't football learn from those sports, rather than stubbornly hanging onto a sytem that doesn't work? Everyone wants the maximum number of correct decisions. At the moment, the system seems to be slanted towards protecting the referee, rather than reaching the correct decision. Whereas in cricket and rugby, because it is accepted that the on-field team are part of a wider team, there is no shame in having a decision overturned. Why can't the captain/manager of each team have two challenges that they can ask for during a game? Why can't we see the process on the big screen? Why is the process managed remotely, rather than in the stadium? |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Slicker to Stay with Town at 13:40:03
I didn't think Muric was great in the Nice game and it was a portent of things to come. We can't afford to mess around when we need points, starting at Fulham. I know this won't be popular, but if it were me, I'd start Muric against Wimbledon with Slicker as backup, and be thinking about starting Walton on Saturday, again with Slicker as backup. Muric's time may come, but Walton was good against Liverpool and is the safe option right now. We are in the big boys' league now. |
 | News Comment | Manchester City 4-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 14:35:15
I watched Muric play against Nice and I thought then we were gambling with our lives. We can’t afford to give Muric a chance while we drop points against lesser sides like Fulham. Those points are vital - we’ve invested megabucks on outfield players to stay up, not to commit suicide at the back. Give him the Wimbledon game and put in Walton - who was decent v Liverpool - in for the Fulham game. Slicker on the bench for both. I hope Hladky is happy on the bench for a Championship side rather than being first choice for a Premiership one. Talk about a poor decision! He was badly advised. |
 | News Comment | Cajuste Set to Make Decision on Town Move at 11:35:56
>Not sure about this one as TWTD says "failed a medical" if he failed to pass medical at Brentford then I'd say his going to to fail a medical at town as well.< Not really, because the risk factor of taking someone on loan for a year is different to the risk of buying him outright. |
 | News Comment | Phillips at Playford Road at 20:25:13
£140,000 a week. Now I know we are in a different league. I hope City are oaying a sizeable portion of that. |
 | News Comment | Town Closing In On Swedish International at 15:12:19
Even if there were an issue with a medical, there’s a world of difference between a loan player (us) and a permanent signing (Brentford). Our exposure is far less. |
 | News Comment | Hirst Out for Eight Weeks Having Undergone Surgery at 17:23:04
In many ways, it is a good thing that we face Liverpool and Man City first as these are two shots to nothing. Better that that a period in the season when all the games have a chance of getting something. And you never know. Football is unpredictable. |
 | News Comment | U21s to Face Borussia Mönchengladbach at 09:46:09
Well, with pre-season trips abroad, it’s the whole experience that makes the trip. If this is the biggest problem we face this season, I’ll be delighted. The most important thing is for the team to be in the best shape it can be for the first league game. |
 | News Comment | McKenna Contender For England Job Claim at 10:12:11
It's exactly what McKenna is not good at - picking up a squad of players for two weeks at a time. His skill is in making people better through intensive coaching sessions over long periods of time. It he were appointed to the England job (or perhaps more likely the Northern Ireland job), it would be a lose-lose situation. |
