Proven track record. If we're playing 2 up front, I'd go with these guys.
Piggot has been woeful and Bonne is way off the pace.

How do you feel now re: Cook getting rid of our promising trio of homegrown midfield youngsters Downes, Bish and Andre?
Jury is out for me on Morsy. Doing nothing that Downes couldn't have done. Evans/Harper are not upgrades on the other two.
We've been left without a heart.

The coaching set up is utterly shambolic. If he was any cop, he'd have got a tune out of our squad last year, instead he threw them under the bus.
Cook is totally over rated. Lambert, Hurst, Jewell and Keane all had proven track records of success. However, we have to judge managers on what they do HERE. We have given too many managers far too much time in the past, to the serious detriment of the club.
This isn't working. He is our least successful manager ever, the win rate is worse than dire. ITFC are languishing at our lowest position in the football league for goodness knows how long, certainly since the 50s. There are clearly somethings that have gone hugely wrong behind the scenes and we need to end this now.
We need a manager that can COACH the players, improve them, develop them, etc. I see none of that.

That isn't what I said.
I said I am glad every single player that we've let go has gone. They were not good enough.
The problem is we've not signed nearly enough better players to avoid having to keep half of the dross we still have on the books.
A new team needs time to gel and pre-season is going to be crucial. We need any new players here from the get go. The blunt truth is that Cook has shown he can't motivate or coach the players we have to be any better than they are.
The club needs to pull its finger out and do some serious business this week. [Post edited 20 Jun 2021 22:57]

Training starts next Saturday.
We've only signed two (good) players.
Cook has told the rest of the squad they can leave. Don't get me wrong, I'm not lamenting those that have been shown the door. They weren't good enough.
However, the realisation that a lot of our (very poor) squad will still be here next season is a frankly dire state of affairs. If that is the case, we have no chance of getting out of this league.I can't see Cook lasting beyond Christmas unless we have a huge flood of signings (I'd say AT LEAST 9/10 players) This could be more of a disaster than Hurst if he isn't careful. He is a pretty useless crosser of the ball - something I'd not expect of a winger worthy of being in our starting XI.

My concern is that the way Cook has acted with regard to voicing his opinions on the players he inherited, means he's set himself up an absolutely colossal challenge to try to get in better players, with better character and attitude than the ones we've got. Truth be told, I doubt many of the current crop would want to play for him anyway. It remains to be seen what interest there is in some of our 'stars' (Dozzell, Wolf, Downes, etc.)...not much I'd imagine, aside from those out of contract. I don't believe that in his heart of hearts that Cook wants any of them. However he may have no choice if we can't get the right people in. In which case, goodness only knows how that will work when he's essentially told them he doesn't want them...
Don't get me wrong - Cook has done totally the right thing. Our players have been mediocre at best and for the past two seasons have been an utter embarrassment. They have also essentially ended the careers of our two previous managers. Cook is no fool and won't even entertain the prospect of a repeat of that.
This rebuilt really is a huge job for Cook. We lack quality in every single area and we've never needed to get a transfer window more right, than we do this one. [Post edited 25 May 2021 21:59]

Turning things on their head, who has been the worst player for us this year?
It is a tough call, but for me it is Bennett's. I just don't understand what he offers or how he's made it into the team as much as he has.

I agree, he is one of the few players in our squad that seems really driven to win. He is also undoubtedly one of our best players. Of that there is no doubt.
I really struggle with his off field antics to be honest and that is something of an understatement. |
