 | News Comment | Long May Our Current Ascendancy Continue! - Notes for Norwich City at 13:33:17
“A massive debt, £80 million and rising, crowds of 13-odd thousand and falling. The council owns the ground on which the stands sit and the stands are covered in foliage. Marcus Evans owns the training ground. The have a playing staff of freebies and cheapies worth next to nothing… This comment could really come back to haunt them. It's correct but our position is sustainable if uninspiring. We have an owner who is able to cover the losses and is not demanding re-payment of that debt. If they don't get promoted this season their losses will be at least £20mill next year which be far too rich for Delia. A fire sale of assets and no replacements will see them in a worse state than us this time next season. All the scummers I've spoken to are completely unaware the period of milk and honey will come crashing down without promotion this season. |
 | Blog Comment | What is Going on With the Academy at Ipswich Town? at 16:38:38
Injuries to Bishop and Hyam last season no doubt lowered the stat and has done the same for the start of this season. Smith was dropped prior to injury and it seems doubtful he would have regained his place by now. But that doesn't detract from the fact we are a long way from 50% youth products in the team. The likes of Emmanuel, Kenlock, Dozzell, Patterson and Morris won't get game time while there are some 'proper blokes' ahead of them. When Gerken was in goal it was always the bloke with the shirt plays, but it's not the case when Emmanuel comes in and does an admirable job. Irrespective of category status young players are not getting a chance here and parents/players will take that into consideration when accepting offers from academies. The other side of that coin is that the academy is not producing players good enough for the first team in which case why don't we take it down to Cat3 and save a load of money that could be spent on the first team? |
 | News Comment | Judge: Messages of Support Touching at 12:52:21
Gutted for judge, horrible injury. But McCormack and Woods are a nasty bit of work, didn't see the tackle but then goes after trying to get hyam injured and sent off. No class |
 | News Comment | McCarthy: Gerken Starts, Sears a Doubt at 13:57:20
Mick's right, if Plan A works and works for a long time then you stick with it. Only flaw in his statement is that Bart has been Plan A for a long time and he had was forced to use Plan B. So by his logic he should go back to Plan A = Bart in goal. |
 | News Comment | McCarthy: Gerks Has Been Outstanding at 07:55:34
Sorry MM but "Gerks" hasn't been outstanding, he's been OK. He's had some good games, some average games and some poor games. I'm worried now that we won't be getting the No.1 keeper we desperately need for next season. |
 | News Comment | Williams Wants More Protection From Officials at 11:56:29
I normally don't like players whining about not getting protection from the ref but the Derby game was horrific. Johnny was kicked from pillar to post and there could easily have been a couple of reds shown. |
 | News Comment | McCarthy Expecting Summer Changes at 08:25:17
The biggest signing of the summer will be a No1. keeper. I expect Loach will leave and Gerken stay on as back up. With a keeper like Henderson in goal this season we would have easily made the play offs, missing out on Kuszczak was a big blow last year. |
 | News Comment | McCarthy Keeping Faith With Gerken at 08:34:10
Gerken has made mistake after mistake this season, you can see the defence has little confidence in him and he often goes mute when the defence needs a shout. If he is better than Loach (which I would argue against) then we desperately need a new number one keeper to have any chance of progressing this season or next. |
 | News Comment | McCarthy: No Move for Ebanks-Blake But I'd Love Him Here at 13:00:09
My only worry is that players like SEB and Hunt are waiting to see who gets the Ireland job before committing to us. They might want to come here to play for MM but don't want to be here if MM moves on. |
 | News Comment | The Ex-Files: David Sheepshanks at 11:30:08
allez, the problem wasn't both the stands. The Churchmans was a sensible decision, it cost the club around 2 million with a grant from the organisation that was set up to improve stadia at the time. It increased the capacity to 27,000 without impacting on the income stream. The north stand and associated works however was a disaster, it chopped the capacity to 22,000 for most of a season when we could have filled 27,000 every week, we spent around 23mill on it which is where the major debt came from and you can count on 2 hands the number of times the extra capacity has been used in 10 years. Relegation would have been affordable had we not had that millstone around our necks. |
