Chambers: It Would Be Failure If We Don’t Go Up
at 13:48:55

Yes, it would be, so please as Captain of this once wonderful club, have a word with your team mates and all of you shut up and get on with the job.

Thank you.

O'Neill: We Turned Down Bids Into the Millions
at 17:37:15

The big boys.......

Brighton, Fulham, QPR.

Will the downward spiral ever end?

It's good that we've hung onto our promising young players, but this sounds like the sort of hogwash that Milne used to try and have us believe about how Evans is some kind of saviour, and that everything is fine when it patently isn't.

This is the biggest non news spin on nothing at all of the season so far. Presumably Evans dreamt up this PR car crash personally. If I were O'Neill I'd be embarrassed.

Bolton's Takeover Confirmed
at 20:38:15

Great to know that they are safe. Would hate to see any club (except perhaps MK Dons) go to the wall. I hope they have found themselves a decent owner now.

So, now that we have that out of the way, can we please get back to normality and have a good laugh at them about still banging on about that ridiculous Barry Knight business nearly 20 years ago? Amusingly a local Bolton rag report of Saturday's game mentioned it yet again!

Nydam Out to Make Immediate Impression on New Boss
at 20:17:33

I think this was the bit when I started to wonder about some of the decision making; Nydam and Wolfenden give a really good account of themselves in a key friendly immediately before the season starts and promptly get shipped out on loan. It seemed odd at the time. I think I decided there was more to it than I realised. In reality it was probably simply so he could get his mate Nolan in.

The rest is history - everything seemed odd not long after that.

Good to see him back, a good prospect but I worry about the effect of playing in a struggling team on such a young lad.

Paul Hurst has a great deal to answer for. Total carnage in such a short space of time.

Lambert to Attend PLC AGM
at 21:13:14

Bonhomie definition: cheerful, friendly, geniality. With respect not words I would use to describe Mick McCarthy. Combative, pragmatic, uncompromising would be nearer the mark, and like Roger Finbow I respect him for it. I am amused by his choice of word!

In relation to Luke Chambers I couldn't agree more. I think the supporters owe Luke a great deal of gratitude for the way he has gone about his role as captain in the last few months.

Town Open to Discussion on Change to Stadium Drinking Law
at 14:01:30

We might be treated to some of Milne's wise words on this. Just who was that ‘Town spokesman'?

Right up his street - the playing side of the club dying before our very eyes, but it's OK because you can drown your sorrows as you watch our demise. No thanks- I'll go for a decent pint afterwards.

Here's a thing- before you try to sell me the idea of drinking whilst I watch, why don't you do something about the appalling quality and queues?

Blues Legend Beattie Dies
at 19:43:36

I had the pleasure of watching Beattie play on many occasions. What a player he was, at a time when we were a truly great club. TWTD - unlikely to ever be repeated though it saddens me to say.

If you're too young to remember him, go on to YouTube an search on Ipswich vs WBA 1976 and watch something very special - a superb team including Beattie at its devastating best. I was there with my Dad.

A very sad loss - a player that we always talked about at bus stop on our way to Beyton school on a Monday morning. What a player - nothing more to be said.

Ipswich Town 1-1 Aston Villa - Match Report
at 20:48:55

A memorable performance- full of determination. A dramatic improvement. I'm delighted for the team and for PH. Really well done.

Villa are a good side who were nullified by a well organised display from a team who broke impressively quickly a few times. I enjoyed what I saw today.

The downside was a referee who was woefully out of his depth and intimidated by Villa's big club sense of entitlement. The EFL won't do anything about it. Expect him back at PR before too long. Appalling.

Town to Receive £400,000 World Cup Windfall
at 19:47:07

Thanks very much - some money for effectively nothing. I am sure we're happy to take it.

Just demonstrates the ludicrous amounts of money sloshing around football when as greedy an organisation as FIFA is prepared to do this.

A nice little earner I know, but think of what the likes of Man Utd/City, Real Madrid and Barcelona creamed off from this, and the fact that it's peanuts to them in the wider scheme of things.

Bialkowski-Chasing Birmingham Under Transfer Embargo
at 12:25:21

I was wondering where Birmingham were suddenly getting their money from, and now I know!
Whilst I remain critical of the management of our club in the last 5 years, and am at best sceptical for the coming season, I do recognise that we have never come close to being in such a mess as BCFC appear to be.
It would appear that they spent so much time laughing at Aston Villa's situation that they forgot to look at themselves.
So not only did this club over spend, but also narrowly avoided relegation in the process, so no value for money either.
For me, as this relates to activity 12 months ago, this is testament to what happens when you get on the merry go round of has been/never were managers like Redknapp and Cotterill, both of whom were on my 'darkest fears' list over the early part of the summer.
Laughably, only football could come up with the concept of a 'soft embargo' - a grey area open to further abuse in my opinion. How typical of a footballing authority.

Town Hoping to Complete Roberts Signing as Webster Move Set to Be Confirmed
at 13:50:42

Whilst I appreciate the more positive stream of comments of late, this development is a clear indicator that only the manager has changed and not the overall club strategy.

£4m player leaves, a free transfer comes in. The positive is that he's on a 2 year contract, not a ridiculous short term end of the season job.

From hearing ME's comments previously this is not a complete surprise, but Webster fitted at least a couple of our 5 point plan criteria areas. The delivery of this plan is critical to our club, and in this respect, this is a negative step.

The very best of luck to both players - I hope this works out well for all concerned.

Hurst's First Town Press Conference Live on TWTV on Tuesday
at 20:16:27

I couldn't agree more grumpyoldman, whilst I occasionally had a shred of sympathy for him, his time was well and truly up!

From a completely non football perspective, I'm just fascinated to see where he will turn up next, and how he will act when he does. I doubt he would see a need for change in this respect.

My guess is that he'll get hired in October by a medium size club that's made a poor start, and revel in his ability for the short term fix again, and that ultimately it will go the same way as it did here.

If PH can keep the supporters on side, he will need to be more articulate than MM as well as more able to produce an entertaining team. Good luck to the man - I'm right behind him. Look forward, don't forget the past

West Ham in Portman Road Friendly Talks
at 21:37:59

Backwards step......when is a ‘prestige' friendly not a ‘prestige' friendly? When it's against a the most deluded ‘never was' team, who are so important that they narrowly avoided relegation last season. That's when.

Here we are tugging our forlock to a club that we should be capable of standing toe to toe with. Pathetic. On principe alone we should not be entertaining this nonsense.

A proper prestige friendly to whet the appetite please. Not a nothing club.

Milne: We've Got the Top Manager in His Age Group
at 14:28:17

I like this appointment - I think he's a good fit. If he can keep players like Dozzell, Adeyemi and Huws consistently fit, and have sufficient influence within the club to get the pitch to a decent enough level for some pass and move football, I have some optimism.

One thing I cannot fathom however, is why it is apparently such a newsworthy thing to have the 'best manager in his age group'. Why is his age group relevant? The best manager we could get, regardless of age was surely our best outcome?

I agree that Eddie Howe might have a different view and Pep Guardiola isn't that much older, but none of this is relevant!

Why not say that we have made an appointment that fits the long term vision of the club, and that we are confident that he can build on previous [quite impressive actually] successes, and leave it at that! Too many words again Mr Milne!

Town to Face Crawley at East Grinstead in Pre-Season
at 15:32:32

After last years no home friendly let down, during the darkest days of fan contempt, I would like to think that in these [allegedly] more enlightened times we can expect an announcement of at the very least a mid ranking Premier side at PR as the curtain raiser.

Things do at least sound better on pretty much every front, but nothing has actually happened yet.

Talk is cheap - they have yet to earn my trust.

Season Ticket Sales Up Seven Per Cent as Early Bird Deadline Extended to Wednesday
at 16:33:08

This is really good news — heading in the right direction most definitely.
I do think that IM is getting a wee bit ahead of himself with this comment though:
“There is a positive feeling about the club and I think that is shown with the increase in season ticket sales.
“We are going into an exciting new era for everyone involved with Ipswich Town, particularly the supporters.”
IM/ME should be aware that they are one appointment of a McClaren/Cotterill/Pardew/Megson/Holloway from a PR disaster that will probably make MM's infamous F off at Norwich pale into insignificance. Good start with ticket price reductions, get the next bit right [appointing a manager that captures the imagination], really get some proper traction on the 5 point plan and then and only then pat yourselves on the back.
I do feel slightly more positive, but it's a fragile positivity not based on trust or confidence in delivery of previous hastily designed promises as a short term ‘get us out of the proverbial with the supporters' fix. For example the [actually logical and deliverable] 5 point plan, which was a great idea from the back of a fag packet that no one has been able to take seriously to date.
There is still a very long way to go Mr Milne.
Just saying……..
